Hello,

I posted this same thread in the "leading" science forum which I won't mention here, but the content apparently infringed on their religion of political correctness, so they banned me.

Eric L. Goldstein, Assistant Professor of History and Jewish Studies at Emory University, wrote the book "The Price of Whiteness: Jews, Race, and American Identity" earlier this year. He gives a sociological explanation of how due to the dominent Anglo-Saxon position in the earlier 1900s, Jews had to denounce their identity due to fears of racism if they were to acknowledge their culture and heritage. While the majority would openly extol their culture and ethnicity, any similar expression among the Jewish people would result in an "us versus them" attitude among the anglo-majority. As such, Jewish culture had to self-regulate their expression in order to be safe from persecution. Jewish leaders would state that it is safer to be considered part of the European-derived peoples than to be considered a separate Middle-Eastern ethnicity. What are your thoughts?

Regards.

Considering the high level of racial consciousness amongst the Jews, as well as their generally semi-insulated habits as regards marriage and even business relationships, I find it hard to imagine that they fully disregarded a distinct identity. THough I do find it peculiar when any source calls them "white", when white has always meant European, non-Jewish.
