Excuse me, but I'm not accustomed to writing book reviews. If you think my review sucks, I'm with you on it.

The Plot Against America is an alternate history book by Phillip Roth. It is based on actualy events and uses actual historical "evidence" to back up the story. Of course, his version and interpretation of events may differ from yours.

In the 1940’s Lindbergh runs for President against FDR and wins. America retains its isolationist status and does not enter WWII. Lindbergh then goes about enacting “Homestead 42,” a program that helps assimilate Jewish Americans into America’s culture. This book is about the terror that one Jewish family has under Lindbergh’s America.

We see the world through the eyes of a young Phillip Roth. What better way to see terror than through a young child’s eyes? Everything that young Roth experiences, and understands, can only be ten times worse for the adults who fully understand what’s happening.

Of course, the book raises many questions: How can one book insult so many people? Christians are portrayed as hateful anti-Semitic fools, Kentuckians are portrayed as nice (But overly simple and racist) fools, and Jews are persecuted by just about everyone.

The Jews, as always, are the victims. Never mind the black people that never appear in the book or anybody else who was repressed at the time. This is about the Jews. Phillip Roth has found only one thing to comment on during WWII: that the Jews are the only ones who were really persecuted.

If you smell bullshit when you read this book, then you’d know that it is bullshit. Many people were repressed during Hitler’s reign, not just Jews. To state otherwise is to lie.

If you want a good alternate history book I'd go with The Man in the High Castle by Phillip K. Dick. That's a book (With Nazis in it) that I can get behind.
