So howzabout an image gallery. Members' pics... I could donate the space and maintain the page if there were enough interest and Porfiry provided a link.

Well, you can attach files to posts. I've been wondering if a picture thread would emerge, but so far no-one has been brave enough. :)

I'm glad I guilted a couple more replies to this thread, good on ya.

As for pictures uh-uh, no-way, no, never - I don't even like looking into mirrors! BUT - I'd love to see you-all.
Cheers

Terri,

It's not a matter of beauty queen or wicked witch but of putting face with thought.

We are all born with what we have and we have to make do with that until we leave this realm, unless you have gobs of money. If that is the case then you can buy what you desire; most of us do not fit that profile though.

Teri
02-12-02, 06:26 AM
Would a partial written description do?

What about "I have smiling eyes"? (I have been told that...no, really, I'm not making it up)
or short blond hair, or toes that don't have the second toe longer than the first toe?

I'd say very in between beauty queen and wicked witch.

Wet1, I think you should post your photo first - I'm not picking on you - but if you say that looks don't matter, show us yours.:D

Now I have a very cheeky grin on my face!

(Is there any way to have it displayed in the post?)

I was hoping that other people might post too. I guess that was pretty optomistic. Instead I killed the thread discussion and all ...

Am I really that ugly to scare everyone off? :(

goofyfish
02-13-02, 12:20 PM
It's a conspiracy actually. We have all been sending private messages back and forth, discussing methods that would induce you to post your picture while believing it was your idea. None of us had any intention of putting our pictures on display. :D

Actually... I just haven't taken the time to scan one. I will, as you have boldly stepped forth to start the trend!

Peace.

How the bloody hell did you get my picture!

They tell me I was nude that day - I can't remember because I'd had a drink or two.

And by the way, the feathers are fake, no bird was harmed in any way to make that elaborate headdress.

You are all really brave!
Cheers to everyone

I, fortunately, have neither digital camera, scanner, real camera, daguerrotype, nor existing photo. I'd prefer my existence be unrecorded.

... actually, that's not true. I have a photo somewhere, but it's lost in the sea of detritic filth that is my room. If I locate it, I'll do something with it.

I don't have any photos kicking around...
And that lens instrument connected to my PC isn't really a webcam, it's actually something to gauge how close my nose is to the screen through petty lies, like telling you I don't have a webcam.

You might be able to find a picture of me but you would have to look for a profile at a particular Free webspace/email location on the internet. (I'm not saying which one, but it's not too hard to find)

Although I will supply a picture that could be anyone that doesn't show themselves because I got boredand drew it the other day.

What is wrong with all you people?
Anyone would think you're scared or something.

So, at the moment, fellow sciforumers, it appears that I can't post my picture until monday. My mum plans to bring home a digital camera from work (no...she isn't stealing) but until then I hope this basic description will decide:

Eyes: Green, soul-piercing

Hair: Grey blond, captain kirk-ish

Doesn't wear "gay, obviously nerdy horn-rimmed glasses" Prefers khakis and black t-shirts sometimes with a compliment of a black hawaiin one.

Not overtly tall, about 5ft 5 or six in (but will be taller and more intimidating later)

Has bushy eyebrows that must be smoothed over from time to time (its all that I can find about my face that is jewish)

I invite anyone to copy this little transcript and fill it in with their own description!

Congrats
02-16-02, 12:58 PM
Here's a description of me:

Shirt: Tee-shirt (mainly black, blue, or white) khakis with yarn tied to them, multi-colored socks, red and white sneakers with yarn tied to them, or if I'm in the mood for something more elegant, denim 'ghetto' shoes. Maybe a shirt over the T-shirt; for example a 'good and plenty' pajama top I bought at Target. Very rarely will I wear a sweater anymore, I wear hats though. My pants (which may be gray or beige) will have safety pins on the knees with multi-colored paperclips on them.

I'll occasionaly wear ribbon or shoelaces around my wrists, I have a black soviet-issue military watch. Plastic goldfish on an elastic cord arund my neck.

HEIGHT: 5'10" (I'm shrinking, though)
WEIGHT: 215 pounds (mainly muscle which I have no clue as to its origins.)
HAIR: Brown and thick
EYES: either blue or green, depending on my shirt. Yet dreamy nonetheless...

Pollux V
02-16-02, 01:07 PM
My eyes are always green...

Weight is 145, but I'm not even chubby OR muscular, I have no idea where it is.

I guess it could possibly be inside my head, since I have a HUGE ego.

scilosopher,

Or am I totally in the weeds?

I don't know. How far into Central Park did you make it?

While I'm at it, we should reserve the posts for actual pictures of members. Remember this thread will be here for a while...

Well, scilo, if you've been repeatedly insisting that I'm gay because of a certain use of the word in a poem then yes, you are the person I was talking about. Buuut upon searching ravenously through the forums I can find no hostile statement from you directed at me . Why would you think that you're the bad guy? You've done nothing wrong! Did you see the backslash post? Congrats totally singled me out....

Stryder
02-17-02, 08:13 AM
Scilosopher,

I have to admit I overlooked the statement. I just thought it was directed at someone else... Someone with paperclips lol

Of course it's understandible that you wondered with NYC as your locale.

Yes Congrats, the Punk statement was directed at you (Just the word "punk", not the "Egotistical" piece) as I just thought that the whole paperclip thing was a kind of Genre.

As for Pollux...
Well you do seem to have gotten off on the wrong foot with a few people. I understand it as the usual thing that can occur, the mis-reading of something written in text, because the person reading it tends to use a different context to read it.

Perhaps at the end of this page, you lot can settle your differences and see that none of you truly bear hard feelings.
(Last thing we need is a Sciforums brawl!)

Pollux V
02-17-02, 08:48 AM
Well I'm not angry at her, we're just two very egotystical people, one that vents [her] thoughts a little easier than I do. We have our differences...and our similiarites. I just had to say she was a hypocrite for saying that I was one, I just couldn't quite hold it in any longer. Plus that whole gay thing (under art and culture, poerty arena) frustrated me even though I did think it was hilarious, as well as her little post on the backslash thread. I was laughing hysterically while shouting: Hypocrite! Hypocrite!

I guess I'm done:bugeye:

Maybe not though...BTW I'll have my picture on monday, I'm photographing meeself today and will have the pictures transferred from a certain mother's office to a certain sciforumer's home.

PLUS you know what I realized? I'm one of the 'elder' sciforumers, I look all around me and see newbies! Newbies! I shall now endeavour to find my first post, that will be quite the adventure...

Congrats

;) Paperclips and yarn are very punk, yes. (hmm...)

Here's the deal-

1. I'm not a girl, I'm a guy. Always have been, always will.

2. I do not go to Pollux's school. I do not live in Maine, orNew York (Harlem) for that matter. I live in suburban NJ, center of all thimgs over-priced, commercialized, and humdrum.

3. The 'gay' comment was not directed to Pollux as an insult. Sure, it got mean, but that always happens with me. I'm being funny, so I think, but then I always end up having fun at others' expense. So I apologize, Pollux, for my clumsiness in not kmowing when to stop the joke, and perhaps because I am gay, I didn't exactly know that a gay joke would be taken badly. See, I'd take it as a compliment.

4. I'm not a punk, I'm more of a crazed artist.

5. I never thought Pollux was gay! No one really did. If straight people weren't so paranoid they'd see it wasn't such a big deal if someone started a joke.

6. The Backslah comment- I'd like to delete it. I was having a fake egotistical high over being 'right all along' about /777 and by the way thought that admission of his was desperately funny. I didn't single out Pollux becasue I hated him and thought he as gay, I just did it because I thought he was someone I could joke around with. Yet we see again, with congratulations, jokes go too far.

7. I didn't think Scilosopher was attracted to Celine Dion...why did I say that? The days I posted all of the posts in question I was unusually strange, unusually egotistical and almost certainly insecure. So while I odn't excuse myself from any blame, I will say it's totally out of character for me to be mean like that, and I only act like that when I'm out of character.

Congrats
02-17-02, 10:31 AM
;) Wait- this is not a joke- I AM NOT FEMALE! I just read your last post (pollux) and saw how it referred to me as she??????? Do you all think I'm female? I put up the Celine Dion pic as a joke- #uno it wasn't me, #dos it doesn't look like me, #tres I don't have breasts of thin legs or soft pale skin or big lips and NO! No I don't want them.

This is really surprising. I thought Banshee was a guy from June 2001 to just three days ago, so (yes, I know, I'm a hypocrite!) but I thought I made my masculinity clear to all of you. Well, there's no muscle car thread so I can't go there...(ahem, ahem, ahem, cough:eek:) What's next, am I a male lesbian?

wow...that seriously changes things.

The joke wasn't taken badly it was just MEAN. I was laughing all the way though...

I could've sworn I saw you mention you were a girl, and that celine dion thing really soldified that idea.

Hopefully when I post my pics tommorow SOMEONE of the opposite sex and around the same age will be impressed.

PLUS!! Look at his title: Faerie!! Faerie!!

Congrats are you messing with us? This is too confusing...

scilosopher
02-17-02, 12:26 PM
I thought banshee was a man too (sorry - by default I tend to assume most people here are men, especially the forums I tend to go to seem pretty male dominated). Also, posts here are about the type of stuff where gender is fairly unclear, so it isn't too surprising some of us get confused sometiemes. It's exactly the type of Shenanigans Corngratulations employed - posting a different gender picture - that makes things really confusing (I had always thought congratulations was female - I don't know any guys that would make their name congratulations). I still can't figure out what the hamster is ...

I was also just covering up - I was attracted to Celine Dion (until I knew who it was of course). That's how far off in the weeds I am ... despite the preponderance of men I really come here to pick up women and am broken hearted that Bebelina never responds to my comments directed at her ... I think I'm going to go wander off into central park and frolic in the weeds by the sheep's meadow. To bad it's so safe there now this isn't a fatalistic act. Why cruel world have you deprived me of a way to end my pain!!!

It will be nice if people start posting pics again. If Bebelina keeps posting new ones I bet she can outnumber us all ... In an effort to stop that I realized there was a non mug shot pic of me on my old lab's website. I'm still curious how you post a pic in the actual post ...

Pollux V
02-17-02, 01:26 PM
That's a much better picture, scilo.

And while reading through this entire thread I came to one of Stryder's posts, asking basically if anyone from my school had heard me talk about sciforums.

Well here's the list:

Mr. sixty-two (from astronomy, I believe)
Linziloca (posted once)
My pal david who's name I can't quite remember but who's avatar had a dragon on it
aaand scifred-mr. sixty two, david's, and my creation, we thought it'd be kinda funny to make an antagonist for no reason on the forums. I think once this redneck-y fella we talked to about the website did the post about the *assholes.* I'm not exactly sure, though.

If anyone want's to use scifred's account as a moronical antagonist (only-and if I see any specifically mean posts (rather than just one, giant sweeping one) I'll delete them) his password is oedipus.

Porfiry where is your picture? And goofyfish? And AVATAR??

SO to any of you[Pollux] who are uncertain of my gender identity, here you are. Uncensored pics from Congratulations. A Male. Chromosones 'XY'. Has short hair on head, slightly shorter hair everywhere else. I don't wear fur coats, I don't want to, I have faerie in my title because I am:

I'm going to explain why I thought Congrats was a She.

One of the first posts mentioned "14 year old girl" and "Lesbian".

I thought it a bit odd, and my brain has a habit of remembering things that just Aren't right.

When Celine Dion's picture arose, I laughed.... My sister mentioned she was Gay years ago. lol

I'm going to join Pollux now.... And see if I can Laugh loud enough to plop out a lung,

No one knows who congartulations is- is he a monkey, is he is a lesbian? Is he a woman, is he an infant? Is he is Celine Dion? Is he a lego brick? Is he a little rock on the ground by a schollteacher's house in Germany? I don't reallyknow, do you? I bet not.

;) Hmm..golly gee, I caused a ruckus. I am a little rock on the ground next to a schoolteacher's house in Germany, if you were wondering. Well, that clears up this mess.

To Stryder:
Celine Dion is not, never was, and never will be a Lesbian! Don't you go spreading rumours about her! You go sell 145 million records and see how you'd feel if some guy called you a Lesbian! You'd feel like dirt! Now clean your mouth and repent!
whew...I needed to get that out. About the 'Conservative Connection', if you go into that icky 'Conservatives' thread, you'll find me explain how being gay relates to being a Conservative. You missed it, poor you, boo hoo.

I am not a lesbo, I never mentioned being a lesbo. I never even used the word.

scilosopher
02-17-02, 04:21 PM
Congratulations,
I would think someone who had sold 145 million records would not be so insecure. Especialy since there isn't anything wrong with being a lesbian. People mistaking your sexuality shouldn't make you feel like dirt.

are you sure you're not a straight guy in love with celine??

I got this one crazy question I cannot find answer for about a year. If a man does a plastic surgery and becomes a woman, makes love to woman is he a lesbial???? or better - If a gay becomes a woman and makes love to them, is he now considered hetero sexual???????:D:D:D really stupid question, but I find these aspects really wierd:)

Congrat's

I'm not repenting when you posted this:
http://www.sciforums.com/f12/s/showthread.php?s=&postid=62652#post62652

As for that whole Lesbian bit, I tell you that it was archived originally, And I have witnesses that saw the post too. It's noted because I mentioned to them "Look this person is claiming to be 14 and a lesbian with a Liberal attitude. Either they are going to get themselves in trouble or they are trying to catch someone causing trouble."

Of course that post seems to be no where within the Database.

Just a question for you, a Hetrosexual to a ... Well what ever you wanna be called....

Why on earth do you think that all us people out here in the world that buzzes around your head, Actually want to know about your sexual preferences????

I don't ask peoples sexual preferences, and I prefer not to be told. I'm sure there are many other people like that too. I know you'll probably bring up the whole "We have rights!", well I bring up.. "When you say that and wipe our rights out, why should we give you yours?"

Pollux V
02-17-02, 06:39 PM
Where does it say that he's a lesbian?

Congrats
02-17-02, 07:34 PM
Oh Stryder

I was trying to rememebr any 'lesbian' comment on my part- the only one I could remember was in a thread called 'Vespertine' in the Art/Culture Forum. Bebelina mentioned how she had had 'lesbain dreams' about Bjork. Well, maybe she didn't actually say 'Lesbian', but I kind of inferred it.

But moving on, I had said casually that I was gay about 15 times already here at Sciforums. When it comes to the point that you realize people are already laughing at you because they thought you were female, and no one really picked up on your sexuality previously, you just want to drop the bomb in a totally untasteful way to be funny, that's all.

How you get that I have, or ever have had, a liberal attitude is strange. I thought I was pretty unabashedly Conservative around here, although no one will believe me. I don't want your rights- I don't want gay marriage, the whole bit. I understand the concept that by asking for these special privelages we feel are solving things by counter-acting past injustices, we are in fact hurting our won self-motivation. That goes for all of minority groups.

I would like to ask that you never brought up that you were heterosexual, (ahem?)
Just a question for you, a Hetrosexual to a ... Well what ever you wanna be called....
You obviously have no problem stating your sexual preference. And if you know what heterosexual means, you should at least be able to infer the proper term for 'gay'. It's homosexual. I'm not a tranasvestite, trans-gender, queer, or anything like that. I don't think homosexuality comes with any other charaterstic than sexual attraction. It hasn't been discovered, but I wouldn't be so quick to argue with the idea that homosexuality is genetic.

How hard would it be for you to be attracted to a man? What type of trauma would it take for a drastic change to occur in your sexuality. Basically, none. You're heterosexual and that's it. It's just as hard for me to imagine being attracted to a woman.

Oh, Childhood, you say. You were a mama's boy. You had too many stuffed animals. You didn't have enough quality time with your father. Well, I'm sorry, but I was never a mama's boy, I loved doing 'dad stuff' with my dad- we built a fort together, went to the hardware store together, stuff llike that. When I was little I always followed my mom around, of course. But no more than any other kid. Probably less.

What I mean to say is that find nothing wrong with anyone being straight. Or gay. I do have problems with transvestites, who I view as subjecting to their own wekanesses that they are not worthy to be their own sex. They don't have any more exclusivity for wanting to wear women's clothes as I do for wanting to wear khakis, and don't deserve any. It's conscious, not instinctual.

Please, though, think about this. You'll say that you don't want to know about anyone's sexuality. It surely makes you seem more neutral. Fact is, when you hear someone say they're gay, you don't like it. By saying that if you never heard it, you would never have reacted, and therefore the blame for controversy is handed down entirely to the sayer you are creating more problems than you are solving.

You have the right to react any way you want. I don't care if anyone simply does not like gay people. It's their right. I have every right to say what you have every right to get angry about. We shouldn't be debating on intentions when deciding whether or not something should be said. You have good intentions when wanting to stop a feud in a way that applies personal accountability to people. In theory, it's good for everyone. If it worked, I would supoport. But it doesn't. It just gets people angrier at you. Of course I wish I could change the viewpoint of people like you; it would make my life a whole lot easier. I can't, and I won't. You have every right to dislike me, and I respect all of your rights in all of their totality. I totally abdicate any bias in terms of how I perceive you.

I never decided to be gay. I discovered I liked guys the same time you discovered you liked girls. I never had any problems, so I rolled with it. I didn't pick up anything from it, no mannerisms I treasure as part of my 'self-identity'. I act gay to make people laugh; almost as if I'm making fun of mass perception.

I've said a lot more than the point I wanted to make-which was that by saying I'm not at fault for being gay, I don't have the right to say I have no part in the problem by saying it. That's just stupid. Of course, if no one knew people were gay, there would be no problems. I never made a thread about "Why Congratulations is proud of his Sexuality" because I'm not. Being attracted to men is not something I'm proud of, nor is it something I disdain. It's as natural to me as the routine pumping of blood from my heart. That's as far as it goes.

You're on the right track, Stryder, with your opinions. Sure, you dislike gay people, but that;'s not part of the equation in how to deal with a problem. It may be strange, but I agree with you more about homosexuality than I disagree. The stuff I agree about is just harder and deeper to explain in a reactionary way.

Pollux V
02-17-02, 08:23 PM
Well, don't forget I was laughing about the whole thing (and still am), I am a democratic liberal, which comes with the ability to only persecute people because of how stupid they are. In fact I really despise this one girl at school that acts exactly the same way I do but that's beside the point...

So don't think for a moment that I don't like you because you're gay. I don't like you because you're even more egotystical than I am and aren't nearly as funny. I get the feeling that you may be again inferring that I'm gay, but seriously I don't need to prove to someone out in the stinking wasteland of New Jersey that I'm not. So I won't.

But congrats did you ever pick up on anyone treating you like you were a girl? You know, acting a little softer on the edges, that sort of thing? From the first time we started arguing I was convinced, completely convinced you were a girl.

Technically I don't see how giving gay's as many rights as straight's wipes away straight's rights, nor do I see what is wrong with gay marriages. But, like before, we have wandered from the original post, so all of us should probably just drop it.

Bebelina,
Even though you are in Sweden (my grandma was swedish) now knowing what you look like it's hard to resist virtual flirting. I was slightly chagrined when you didn't reply (especially since you spread so much general love). I guess I have to work on my technique. Or maybe start coloring my font to make it stand out. Then again I'm generally not too flash. No need to apologize - just say yeah redheads or I want your body or something.

Feel free to post as many pictures as you want. Even if I didn't enjoy them myself, others might harangue me to no end if I played some role in stopping you from posting more pics. I think either you or Ismu wins for creativity so far. Very cool.

Ismu,
Awesome pic, I didn't expect you to actually do that! You know after a couple recent experiences I think maybe I should stop drinking too. It's just that my school has an hour of free beer twice a week and it's hard to avoid getting a little more drunk than intended under the circumstances. Then again I'm always ok when I have to pay for my own beers and Moe certainly isn't giving them away free (I don't know if that makes me stingy for not being an alcoholic already or just stupid for drinking too much just cause it's free).

Polllux- that whole 'admission parade' post was not directed to you, it was directed at Stryder. I never had the thought in my head that you didn't like me, gay or not. Nor did I ever think you were gay. Nore do I think New Jersey is a wasteland.

But I really don't want to talk about this crap anymore! It isn't exactly relevant anymore. It's getting just a little depressing. So enough about sex, hermaphrodites, and straights' rights on Sciforums. This thread is good for getting to know each other on Sciforums, not for examining and cross-examining something someone said. lol Hoth, we should compare everyone who posts pictures here to various scifi characters. And I'm not nearly as short as that boba fett kid, yeah, that's right, I know who you're talking about.:D

I think that bbcboy looks like the guy that should've won survivor, I can't quite remember his name but anyone who watches the show will know instantly who I'm talking about. Bebelina reminds me a little bit of Galadriel from The Fellowship of The Ring, that's all I can really come up with for now.

Growing up I had a brother/sister pair of cats with black hair and the same priest spot of white (no little bit of white on the mouth though). Unfortunately Reginald Pithers passed away last year and Cleopatra has retired to Florida with my parents. Your picture just reminded me how much I miss them.

Looks like a great cat (Reggie was 25 lbs and not quite so similar to Lo as Cleo aka blinkers, clee-bee, beebers ...). How many do you have?

Pollux,
That sounds like a different thread to me. Besides I don't live in a house so the outside is a little misleading and the inside is almost downright depressing (picture subsidized student housing in NYC that's only $300/mo).

Bebelina

Scilo, I have four. Lo has a twin brother named Puh , aslo black but with a very small white spot, hardly noticable. The others are E.T and Nemesis. And my middle name is Cleo. :)

Merlijn, Lo is trying to take the computer from me now, you should never had said that....and I should never have posted her picture. Oh, too late... she is ususally out flirting on the net at www.rats.com trying to get a snack, but now she wants to be here....

Bebelina,
Interesting that we both had sibling black cats. We only made it up to 3 and the third was a bit of a wonderful but patience trying accident. She was one of those needy strays that you had to love ... and sometimes hate as she would tirelessly keep jumping into your lap until you petted her and never exactly learned good manners if you know what I mean. She didn't even have an agreed upon name - baby, scraps, jallopy, and even sh*ty-kitty (a mean one joke that was used when she demonstrated her lack of training). I miss her too, but she died 5 years ago and we didn't have her for 14+ years like reg (and she also didn't die in the back of the car as I was sped to the vet like reg. It was the most traumatic experience of my life - his last minutes were far from peaceful).

Cleo's a great name, my first and middle names are both straight out of the bible and entirely too common. Maybe I should pick up a general psuedonym like Bebelina ...

Hoth,
You have a black cat too? Wow, if I didn't know better I would be surprised so many people have black despite the myths - and myths they are - my cats were nothing but good luck.

Sorry about the off topic rambling, I just miss my kitties and lo looks a lot like cleo (I just wish I thought a cat might be happy stuck in my little apartment) ...

strgrl,
If it was a bad thing I think they're both nice enough to keep their mouths shut (which makes me concerned that I only got comments about being brave when I posted my first pic which could even be a bad sign [and only pollux noted an improvement on the second]).

Okay, since I started to type what I was going to say became irrelevant other than - despite possible selection for those who either consider themselves attractive or are brave, people are a surprisingly attractive for a bunch of people addicted to the internet. Unless they are all photoshop wizards.

Bebelina,
Sorry to hear about Yoda, that's sounds like a tough way to lose one as well (and I'm guessing it didn't live to the ripe old age Yoda did).

EDIT: I realized I didn't really remember what people had said. Not too much. I got one redhead criticism and one mental mind trick comment ... maybe I'm the one who thought it required bravery and not simply an available photo.

I was confused by the whole hetties thing too, I think it's for heterosexual. I guess some think we're turning sciforums into match.com

Speaking of cats Chagur told me in another thread that a friend of his left out a mercury compound of some sort, and this cat from another house approached it and, well...exploded:(

But here's the tally of animals that I am accompanied by (which I'll post pics of sooner or later, as well as my surroundings, since that was my own suggestion):

2 cats-Jungle and Pepper (Pepper is my sister's cat so naturally Jungle is the better one:D )

2 dogs-jessie and simon. Simon lost the last brain cell he was priveleged to hold onto today when he inhaled a puff of nail polish from my sis. He then proceeded to sniff the window and bark at a pair of leaves that fluttered by.

2 birds-mine own! Lutino Fischers Lovebirds, named Gandalf and Galadriel. We're like distant cousins, they don't really approach me too often but we usually find ourselves singing the tune that accompanies an attractive woman that passes by.

1 iguana-bix, who is my sister's. Bix doesn't really do too much. I think she wipped gwen (or guinan as I like to call her) once. She's not full size yet.

So many animals, must be like a zoo at your home. :D Sounds great. I laughed when I read about the dog. Reminds me of a dog I had as a kid, Dino, who one day stood outside barking at a pair of boots, that obviously looked very suspicious. Maybe they smelled funny, or maybe his eyesight was failing...:)

I have this captain kirk cardboard standup thingy which scares the shit out of anyone if they don't know that it's in a room (seriously, you don't know how scary those cardboard things are until you have one). Anyway we brought him inside and Simon went berserk, barking at the top of his lungs, howling, everything, we moved him around n stuff like he was real and it made him pee all over the floor. That was really, really funny.

Yes, it is like a zoo here. None of us can go anywhere without someone in our way:D

I wouldn't know where to begin. And here I was today lamenting about the need to establish my identity due to certain confusions that, while amusing ... anyway .... The scary thing was that I hadn't seen this thread yet; and, for whatever reasons, it is entirely possible--when you see JamesR's little survey you'll understand--for me to have missed it; just don't ask me how.

At any rate, in the time of this thread's existence, my gender has been called to question no less than four (4) times. Cris and others have laughed with me through this many times before, but for once it wasn't based on the phoenetics of the name Tiassa (tee•AH•suh); rather, as Adam pointed out, it's apparently something about my presentation.

In that spirit, I will post a picture of my cat. :p

Actually, I've seen a few cat pictures in here, so there's that. And to keep this post from getting huge let me just say that it's ironic; I have seven or eight images of myself taken within the last two weeks that are the first voluntary, calculated photographs of me in several years; possibly ten.

In the meantime, even with so few images to choose from, I'm having a sudden, prissy debate about which one to put up. :p

So here's my cat.

Oh, for heaven's sake ... I just can't escape it. :D

Ummm ... how about the poseur pic? This one is the only remaining from a hideous evening spent playing with the digital camera and light. I'm disappointed at the resolution of the card, which is the only reason I took that picture, to see how finely it could mark the card. But at least I can still tell what it is. The red is not an effect; in fact, it's why the other is black and white. The red light obsessed me for days and I finally figured out why: it makes me look better when I put them to black and white to mask the bad colors I managed to land on my face.

But, yeah ... at three in the morning on way too much red wine ... look at me, Mom, I'm a poseur! (So, yes, you can laugh at it.) ;)

It was bad enough when I wrote like a woman :bugeye:

Which server do you go on on IRC?

Adam
03-25-02, 11:34 PM
Adam is:

Born: 1973
Location: Monash University, Clayton, Victoria, Australia.
Current Occupation: Computer engineering sudent.
Work history: Royal Australian Navy, then barman, waiter, carpet layer, and other odd jobs.
Pets: 8 horses (including 2 new foals), 3 dogs, 2 cats, and zillions of wild birds who like to spend Spring at my family's farm.
Status: Currently obsessed with November.
Height: 6'1"
Weight: I want to drop ten pounds. :p
Hair: long brown, mostly straight.
Eyes: Blue, blue-grey.
Political Affiliation: The Adam for El Presidente! party.

At the moment I live in the attic in one of the Monash uni halls of residence. All alone up here, tiny room, but lots of peace and quiet.

I am not using IRC these days because I am stuck behind the university's horrendous firewall and proxy system. If I ever figure out how to get through it all with IRC, then I will resume my duties as an operator on the Undernet channel #casual.

I didn't realize the Australian Navy was in such dire need of people they allowed minors to join up. Or was that just when they were worried that Boatload of refugees might land there?

When I shave my head w/o shaving my beard I look like an ex-con (the picture on my license)

When I grow a big bushy beard and long hair I apparently look Omish (the picture on my undergrad id)

No beard and medium length hair I look like the canonical white bread shmuck (previous drivers license).

No beard long hair my face looks way too small - at least right after being Omish.

Too many people have goatees, so they're out.

Maybe I should try shaving my head and beard, it couldn't be any worse than the rest ... Besides women always go crazy over how cute baby's look. It couldn't hurt. (I know better than to shave the rest of my body hair - that episode of Seinfeld made me itch)

If I actually have the balls to try it, I'll post a pic. I was planning on shaving my beard and getting a short cut anyway once it gets a bit warmer ...

(since you can all view a pic or two with a beard and medium length hair I'll let you draw your own conclusions about what I look like ; )

A basilisk is a mythical creature whose breath, as I recall, could turn you to stone (stone you? :D) .... Fewments? Droppings. Dragon droppings, as I recall from L'Engle, and probably a few mundane animals as well.

Porfiry

A beard ... ugh. Imagine Japanese coarse-hair texture and a Norwegian beard. The primary beard comes in reasonably if I keep it just a touch longer than Don Johnson, but these weird, pubic-looking hairs crawl down my cheekbones, like a single line of them on each side beneath my eyes. Xev, for instance, might find it Cthulhian if I grew just those hairs. I can't bring myself to put Neer on my face, and I'm obliged here to make the joke that I won't let Nads anywhere near my face. :D )

thanx,
Tiassa

All right, I've decided to post my little collection of pictures as well.

Since I tend to have a near-to-impossible time of not growing facial hair, these all have some form of facial hair in them. Admittedly, I look a little psycho in the bottom-left, pissed-off in the bottom-right, stoned in the upper-left, and usual in the upper-right.

Overall, I think I resemble a real goofball.

Oh yeah. I know. They're not what you were expecting, but neither was any of the other pictures so far posted. Great pics by the way.

Thanks!

Here's a question: Do people really mean it when they claim that physical appearence dosen't matter?

Now, I believe that, to a certain degree.....intelligence and attitude is way more important.

But I do not believe it when others say so. What causes trust? Is trust based on evidence, or is it a form of faith, or is it a bit of both?

Asguard

Well i actually met tempary_illusion on ICQ and i knew i wanted her before i had met her or even seen her piture. So for me i would say YES brains and heart are much more important:D

Adam

Well, I saw one post in which you gave a rather unflattering description of your physical self Xev, but you've got one hell of a brain. I wouldn't be surprised if several sciforums users already have crushes on you, and that would be based solely on your personality, or what of it has been seen here. (I believe Nelson was mentioned? Don't worry, I'm only teasing.)

As for the importance of physical appearance, well, it is nice to look at something healthy. Seems to me that our ideas of what is beautiful or not are based on health conditions and breeding potential.

I'm not sure if appearance or personality as factors can completely negate the need for the other. No idea.
