Saw this movie last night, on my hooky day! Very good beautifully fimed Indian movie made for Americans. The colors, music and the strolling through the lives of the main family and Calcutta, then NYC was breathtaking. I thought it might be too sentimental but I was wrong. Brilliantly acted, GORGEOUS male lead and a rich tapestry of a story that winds through generations of a Bengali family that emigrates to the USA.
I love Indian (as in India) film and missed the song and dance often treated to viewers but this film was marketed for the USA where onscreen dancing and singing to Indian music just doesn't work in Red States like mine so the very short bit of dance and song was delightful anyway.
The score was gorgeous.
Anyone seen this movie?

I've heard the same good reviews.

I saw this French film the other night called "Exterminating Angels", about this film maker which was looking to make a film about sexual taboos. It was confusing. But I was aroused.

But I was aroused."Exterminating Angels" is the name of the band shown in the John Malkovich movie about Stanley Kubrick's London imposter. Ironic that I saw that movie in DVD this weekend too.....

I'm reading the book.I'll bet the book is incredible. Since the story spans over 3 decades alot must have been skipped for the film. I wept! At the theater! Alone! I was so embarrassed but it is a touching and warm glimpse of life and love and things lost along the way. I could see it again.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0366551/OMG! He was so good in the film! I thought he was a big Indian star! Hard to fathom he was in such trashy camp. Astounding. He makes me tingle in a dirty way.:runaway:
