How much longer do you think Earth will last ? Take into consideration our actions in it and the life span of a star. Consider outside uncontrolled forces, such as the sun going super nova while heading straight for our planet. Or big angry meteorites bombarding the place and dashing heads in, Meanwhile ponder the history, age and condition of other planets in our forseeable galaxy as well. Then answer the poll.

In about 500,000,000 to 1,000,000,000 years the sun will get to bright and the earth will no long be able to have green house gases (like CO2) if it is to stay at a reasonable temp. In 4 Billion years the sun will go nova and engulf the earth nothing should be left. If the earth survives that though it will suffer a freezing eternity unless proton decay is real and in about 10^70 years all that is left of the earth will have decayed into oblivion.

oh what a cheery future:D
How long will the earth last ?
I gues the short answer would be; Untill the sun ends it's life 5 billion years from now and expand into a red giant and expands untill it is larger than the earth orbit.
But given the fact that the sun is gradually getting hotter (and please dont ask me about global warming) it has been predicted, that in 2 billion years or less, it will be so hot that the oceans on earth will evaporate. And of course it will be unfit for human habitation.
My personal opinion is (actually I got it from my geology teacher in university) that the human race will degenerate to the point where they can no longer reproduce, and will disappear long before that.
Regards M.J.
** Or perhaps the weapons of war will destroy the fault lines of the earth. And the sharks and marine animals will have a feasta.
