View Full Version : The Intellectual Origins Of America-Bashing
A specter haunts the world, and that specter is America. This is not the America discoverable in the pages of a world atlas, but a mythical America that is the target of the new form of anti-Americanism that Salman Rushdie, writing in the Guardian (February 6, 2002), says “is presently taking the world by storm” and that forms the subject of a Washington Post essay by Martin Kettle significantly entitled “U.S. Bashing: It’s All The Rage In Europe” (January 7, 2002). It is an America that Anatol Lieven assures us, in a recent article in the London Review of Books, is nothing less than “a menace to itself and to mankind” and that Noam Chomsky has repeatedly characterized as the world’s major terrorist state.

An essay someone on another message board found, I thought some of you might be interested...
PS: Note by the spelling, the author seems to be American.
the author seems to mix anti-american with anti-democratical. Yes- there are many anti-americans in Europe, but there are very few who think that communism is a better option.
Adam:
Thank you for linking us to that most well-reasoned and compellingly informative work.
It is, in my mind, both your most significant contribution here, so far, and your greatest personal trajedy for the tatters it makes of your own America-bashing world-view.
:D
1) I noticed you complete lack of intelligent response in an earlier thread.
2) I notice that even here for no reason, you must snipe like a whiny little bitch.
You are now officially on my list of complete wankers.

..., and of your Mr.G-bashing, too. ;)
:D
someone mentions Chomsky.
I love his work except that he, until 9/11, refused to discuss conspiracy as he felt such talk detracts from a pure institutional analysis. Even Chomsky is now willing to admit that conspiratorial processes do have a role..........if Chomsky can make the leap, any of you can.
As Michael Parenti points out in his lecture 'Conspiracy and Class Power', the two are NOT mutually exclusive.
Finally....someone mentions Chomsky
With approriate derisiveness, too.

Should I call you whiny little male trash then?

Feel free to. But might I ask what makes you any different to any other unproductive munchkin who contributes nothing to a thread?
That's more like it. Munchkins are cute. But there is nothing to contribute to a thread that's whiny from the start.
You didn't actually read the article starting this thread, did you?
You're asking people to read a whiny article. So what???

That's really all I need to know, thanks.
All this irony is absolutely killing me. :D
