New Trailer (http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney/the_incredibles/)

Everyone talks about the cgi and animation (both are fantastic of course) but most competent studio's can pull that off now a days (Shrek). You can't lose with the cool effects and great design but it's the subtle stuff that launches Pixar above everyone else in my opinion.

If you saw the first teaser (you can see that too at the link above) when mr. incredible is struggling to get his belt on, he does that quick slap of the table in frustration or in this new one when he's being interviewed and can't get the microphone on, "I mean, I can break through walls I just can't...erh..*trails off*...". The voice acting, so subtle!

I AM PIXAR'S BITCH! The law of averages says they have to bomb eventually but I honestly find that hard to imagine, these guys are fucking masters. I'm usually the most cynical bastard ever regarding movies but Pixar... can... do... no... wrong.

rant ends.

Oh oh I loved the teaser that came with Finding Nemo. This actually looks quite funny! Gonna see it.

Pixar is god...it can do no wrong which is worrisome since by laws of physics they should have made a stinker by now.

Nemo had its charm. Escapé!

I didn't pay $7 USD for "charm"! I demand QUALITY!

Neither did I :D

I thought it had a lot of comedy in it. I liked it.

Ellen DeGeneres was a good voice actress, but I didn't like the story/art/fish.

you demand quality?

visually at least, nemo is one of the most breathtaking things I have ever seen. Story wise I thought it was so-so, animation was superb and voice acting was good to very good depending on the character. Christ it's a G movie, if that show isn't quality you and I definitely have different definitions of the word.

The last 3 Pixar movies were great. Nemo just wasn't the same caliber.

Also, the absence of arms bothers me.

This is a first for me, I can usually say, "weeeell, I kind of see your point" to many people that I don't see eye to eye with but I could not disagree more. As an animator and illustrator, I watched that movie with my mouth literally hanging open. It was the most stunning thing I'd ever seen on screen, seriously I thought it was magnificent. The only part I found could be said to be less than the others is story, it was definitely skewed to a younger audience but it was by no means bad.

I do see the no arms things being a problem but fish with arms would have a hell of a time swimming, not to mention looking pretty silly.

Hey Buffys. Can I see some of your work?

last year i showed someone a finished animation and it ended up on his home page so I'm a little wary of that. I suppose I'd be ok with showing unfinished stuff or sketches.

No, your illustrations. Watermark em for protection.

I'll think about it and PM you, I don't ooze with trust in this area.

I'm not implying that it's too valuable to show you or anything like that, I'm just very possesive of the stuff I make.

Understood. As Someone in the same profession as you I know what you mean.

As an animator, I guess it's pretty obvious to you the incredible number of shortcuts made possible by the film's format. I'm surprised people like that kind of thing. But ok.

holy fuck! you just got me on a personal pet peeve (the so called illegitimacy of cgi) I could write a paper on it so expect a long winded respone in the near future (likely later tonight). I'm on my way out but you'll regret it. Not because I'll necessarily convince you but I promise I will bore you, I have a hell of a lot to say on this subject.

fair warning.

I have great respect for GCI when it's done well. See Macross Zero, or Monsters Inc.

THANK GOD!
... thank fucking god. I still type with two fingers so I'm glad I don't have to go through the effort of justifying cgi to you.

I agree with the titles you've named, so I can't argue those. Our disagreement seems to be only, Finding Nemo.

Do you honestly think it's poorly animated or designed? If so need you to point out why, because every bit of my experience, training and love of the art disagrees with you.

I genuinely can't see what you find below "quality" in that movie. In my opinion, not only was it designed and animated beautifully but it had the advantage of being set in an innately awe inspiring place (the ocean). They did everything right in my opinion.

Just tell me what you thought was flawed, specifically.

EDIT: Since you removed the cgi part of my argument, that's the speech.

You know what. You trying animating water and underwater species physics with excellent detail. That movie had more than one year of research put into it and it shows. It was impressive on every level.
