View Full Version : The Hottest spaceborne vessel
Enterprise-D 12-18-06, 09:19 AM Pick your fav folks. I've tried to pick best of breed.
-It does seem Trekkie based I know.
-I figure the Executor destroyer is the best of the SSDs.
-I threw in Dr Who's Tardis because it has hidden and overt supership abilities...shielding, time travel, tractor abilities, it can even "reassemble" from time infarctions.
Any to add? Feel free to comment
Nikelodeon 12-18-06, 10:03 AM I went for the cube, but I prefered the sphere.
Enterprise-D 12-18-06, 10:14 AM Actually I was going to put the Diamond, but I wagered it isn't as popular as Cube or Sphere...
Ragnarok 12-18-06, 10:37 AM The diamond was sweet, but i also like the Andromeda Ascendant, simply because it was a 'bio' ship.
Enterprise-D 12-18-06, 12:15 PM Dam I knew I would have forgotten something...Rommie/Andromeda! :)
Ah well...these things happen :) Can you edit a poll?
Enterprise-E all the way. The ship itself looks like it could just rip a hole into space-time. Sovereign Class. Yes. *_*
On a side note, Doctor Who=Bad ass.
Prince_James 12-18-06, 08:07 PM It's not the East side or the West side - NO IT'S NOT!
It's not the the North side or the South Side - NO IT'S NOT!
It's the DARK SIDE! - YOU ARE CORRECT!
Bow down to the empire, or we'll blow your planet up!
The Super Star Destroyer blows the rest of the ships out of the water. It is 11 miles long of sheer sex.
I watched Episode V recently. I forgot how absolutely amazing all those ships were. Real models are still way better looking than the CG crap. Something about The Empire Strikes Back really captured a gritty space opera feel that none of the others in the series does.
Prince_James 12-18-06, 09:46 PM I gotta say, I really love those real models, too. I am not so sure CGI has really -enhanced- the science fiction experience, but it certainly has helped television shows produce equitable effects.
Enterprise-D 12-18-06, 10:37 PM CGI=Bad ass ;)
TW Scott 12-18-06, 10:55 PM Vader's Super Star Destroyer definately takes the cake. Big enough it is no longer considered a starship but instead a spacestation. A crew of a quarter million people, not counting troops, fighters, shuttles, and the six light cruisers (think in sterms of Constitution class in size) it carries in hangar. It hase 250 Heavy Turbo laser cannons each one capable of destroying a Star Destroyer in just roghtly three hits, 250 Heavy Ion Cannons, and enough light turbolaser weaponry to make many smaller ships consider any attack on the vessel to be suicide. She will be missed.
The Sovereign class SSD (which predates the idea of the Fed Sovereign ship) which had a Superlaser and was more than fifty times the size of the Executioner class is my idea of a ride.
spuriousmonkey 12-19-06, 05:11 AM Blake's7 liberator
the Liberator, an alien spacecraft far in advance of anything the Federation possesses with superior speed and weaponry as well as a revolutionary teleport system that allows crew members to be transported to the surface of planets without having to land the ship.

Plazma Inferno! 12-19-06, 05:21 AM Darth Vader's Executor Super Star Destroyer is my choice!
But, where is Nostromo? Truly, it is big and cumbrous, but has the best interior. My favourite. :)
The Battlestars, whether from the old series or the new series. They just look like they mean business.
Ayodhya 12-27-06, 02:26 PM Large objects that fit the form of simple geometric shapes are the best:
Crazy Cubes and tubular Death Stars are great...
The D'Deridex *is* pretty hot.
However I'd have to go with the Sol Bianca. It's just damn gorgeous.

Ayodhya 12-27-06, 06:32 PM What the hell kind of anime is that from Sandoz?
Prince_James 12-27-06, 08:38 PM Sol Bianca.
And Sandoz:
You like anime, also?
What about the Heart of Gold from Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy?http://us.movies1.yimg.com/movies.yahoo.com/images/hv/photo/movie_pix/walt_disney/the_hitchhiker_s_guide_to_the_galaxy/heartofgold_exterior1.jpg
or the Yamato from Star Blazershttp://www.otal.umd.edu/~mgk/blog/yamato.jpg
Sol Bianca.Sol Bianca, The Legacy.
And Sandoz:
You like anime, also?Yep. I used to be a real anime freak 'n all, but I don't keep up so much nowadays. I still have lots of DVDs though.
Prince_James 12-28-06, 06:43 AM That's -quite- nifty, I must say. Have any favourites aside from Sol Bianca?
Enterprise-D 12-28-06, 07:57 AM lol ok didn't think about anime vessels :o
Enterprise-D 12-28-06, 08:06 AM The Heart of Gold could be considered a 'super ship' since it can take any form (like the Tardis used to be able to) and is intelligent. It's only caveat is that its shape changing ability is random.
Does the Heart of Gold have weapons?
Speaking of the Tardis...did anyone see its car chase scene? Was great :)

Enterprise-D 12-28-06, 08:15 AM Come now...Space Above and Beyond? :p
Nikelodeon 12-28-06, 08:23 AM Come now...Space Above and Beyond? :p
:D Actually I always liked the fighters in that series.

And the fact that they had "hard" bullets rather than lazer-type weapons that every sci-fi show seems to have.
Prince_James 12-28-06, 08:28 AM Space Above and Beyond was a damn good show. Sadly, they cancelled it WAY before its time.
However, I find the "space marine" nonsense to be pretty lame over all.
That's -quite- nifty, I must say. Have any favourites aside from Sol Bianca?Let me see... My collection is pretty representative of my tastes: Cowboy Bebop, Serial Experiments Lain, Rintaro's Metropolis, NieA_7...
Prince_James 12-28-06, 07:46 PM Bubber:
The Yamato is excellent. Leiji Matsumoto is God II.
Prince_James 12-28-06, 07:47 PM Sandoz:
Not bad choices at all. Bebop is a classic (and has some very cool ship designs also). I haven't seen NieA7, but I've seen the others and liked them quite a great deal. Lain, however, should have been significantly longer.
Ayodhya 12-28-06, 09:22 PM What about the intelligent stuff, Prince and Sandoz?
Neon Genesis Evangelion?
Ghost in the Shell?
Prince_James 12-28-06, 09:49 PM I am a tremendous fan of Ghost in the Shell. Specifically the television series. In fact, GitS: SAC and SAC 2nd GiG are two of my all time favourite animes, for their utter brilliance and highly intellectual plots.
Some of my other favourites:
Anything by Leiji Matsumoto.
Berserk.
The Legend of the Dog Warriors: The Hakkenden.
Ergo Proxy (I especially love the Cartesian references throughout).
Robot Carnival (a very avant-garde "Animatrix"-esque multiple-director/animator movie from the mid 80's)
Whisper of the Heart
Ah! My Goddess!
Record of Lodoss War
Banner of the Stars (but not the rest of the series in terms of favourites)
Gankutsuou
Big O (one of the few animes to match GitS in its highly intellectual and involving plot)
And many more (I have a wide variety of tastes and do not stick to one genre).
I did not, however, like Neon Genesis Evangelion at all. I only liked the trippy last episode. If the anime had kept that up throughout its entire run and focused on the the themes of Qabbalah and Hegelianism, I'd have watched and enjoyed it a lot more.
Anyway, I should include some of my favourite spaceborn vessel pics...

(Note the increasing enthusiasm for tremendous power level.)
Now, do fighters also count for this thread?
Prince_James 12-29-06, 09:56 PM Lexx was a good show.

Now, do fighters also count for this thread?Aren't all of these basically giant space wangs? Do you have issues in that department, my dear James?
And Ayodhya, clearly asking about "intelligent stuff" after the animes I mentioned is ridiculous, but yes, I love Evangelion and Ghost in the Shell.
Prince_James 12-30-06, 08:45 AM Sandoz:
Dearest, I assure you, I have no problem with my giant space wang.
Now excuse me as I get in my long, phallus-shaped car, and repeatedly enter and exit tunnels.
But anyway, Ghost in the Shell is enjoyed by all. This I am supremely glad of, as it is truly a masterpiece of animation.
The Heart of Gold could be considered a 'super ship' since it can take any form (like the Tardis used to be able to) and is intelligent. It's only caveat is that its shape changing ability is random.
Does the Heart of Gold have weapons?
What about the Heart of Gold's successor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starship_Bistromath)?
What about the Heart of Gold's successor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starship_Bistromath)?
Can you say it's a "hot" vessel if you don't have a picture of it? I don't know I'm just asking...
It is a pretty cool ship:bugeye:
invert_nexus 12-31-06, 12:06 PM It looks like an italian bistro tilted over on one side dipped in pink paint, doesn't it?
Of course, that's only when the SEP isn't operating at full force.
