ok - so I got this book from one person on Solstice
I know there are a lot of americans here , so I'd like to hear a review.
Is it worth reading, why is it prohibited in the USA, is it really boring.
btw- as I hate all autobiographies and social novels I need a honest opinion on the book
thanks

I'm sorry i can't be more help. As far as i know, it is not banned - however, i don't know anything about the novel. Some friends in school are reading it in their english class (HS) so i guess it's not banned. I hear it's not that bad

Supposedly the intimate refections in this book may act like a mirror for people who are depressed already and might feel supported in their bad train of thought...
While they are at it , ban Goth culture as well;)
Never saw why everybody makes a big deal about this book. It's the whiny story of a rich, whiny young man.
Just annoying. The rich should have their possessions appropriated and given to the poor when they write whiny novels. This includes Wuthering Heights.

thanx Xev
I won't read it then
*Shrugs*
Some people like it. I thought it was pretty boring...I mean, here is this kid, he grows up upper middle class, has a future, has a place to live, has never gone hungry, and all he does is whine about his existentialist ennui and how "phoney" everyone is.
I mean, it's probably one of those books you should read just because they're classics, but the trials and travails of some kid who can't even manage to fuck a hooker just annoy me. Hell, maybe I'm hypocritical for sitting here listening to Manson as I type this, but it is sooo adolescent whinging.

I think you should read it and create your own opinion.
It's good in the sense of no-one had created a book like that in its time.
That society can rip someone apart, but you can also rip yourself apart.

So was This Side Of Paradise.

I highly suggest that you dont. Most people who form opinions die or kill themselves. Just look at Michael Jackson.
Who was it who said that classics are the books that you never read?
