Under ten children? As in there were 8 or 9 of them? Or they were like 5 or 6 years old? Ah who cares. I remember a time when number one was candy. In a few years time it'll be "not being kidnapped". Wait and see.

Candy reminds me of too many scary visits to the dentist.

At 5, it was kindergarten recess and playing on the swings or being whisked round-and-round on our playground's circular push wheel.

At 8, I loved going into the forests and finding exotic wildlife: salamanders, turtles, and snakes.

At 10, I dreamed of being a veterinarian.

At 12, I couldn't wait to get home from school and ride my home-made motorized minibike that I made from an old Briggs & Straten lawnmower engine.

At 14, I dream't of winning my first motocross race, but the closest I ever got was 2nd place.

The Best Thing in the World is "Life" - Life gives you the ability to dream about having the Best Thing in the World.

Sorry (not really) to blow your image of America, but that was in England.

No matter - what do ten-year-old children know anyway? Want to turn the world over to them and the likes of MetaKron?

(I didn't think so.) :D

If the questionaire (with children 10 years and younger) in the US was done then the list would have been:
1. being famous and rich
2. being rich and famous
3. have your face on TV for any duration of time
4. Dreaming having your face on TV (or any body part)
5. watching TV
6. making babies
7. dropping out of school
8. telephone
9. listening to M&M
10. burgers

So the best thing in the world to anyone is themselves - the fact that they exist. But it sounds so egotistical when I say it :p

Jesus fucking christ, I am so sick of people generalizing the ENTIRE American populous because of a few fucking idiots. I, for one, haven't ever dreamed of any of these being the best thing in the world. 1 - 5 are dreams of kids and sadly not a reality for a VAST majority. My dream as a kid? To go out and play and have a good time. 6 - 10 Right, the last thing I want to do is go out and make a baby right now, fuck that I have to much other shit to get done first. Dropping out of school? BAH! I don't think I will ever be done with school. Telephone? Yeah, I use one, but who doesn't? I don't sit around and jab on it all the time because I have to much other shit to get done. Eminem(perhaps you should learn how to spell it as well, unless you are talking about the M&M characters in commercials)? Please, some of his stuff is okay, the rest is garbage and while burgers are great, they are far from the best thing in the world.

I wish fucking idiots like yourself would get your view straight that not all Americans are like those you see on TV and or read about in your magazines and newspapers.

Football in England? I guess "fotball" in England is what americans call "soccer". How stupid of them. Oh, and let's use Faherneheit just to be different too. Yeah, whatever....

No matter - what do ten-year-old children know anyway?
The study suggests the values that were taught to the children- those values didn't come directly from the children, but were absorbed by the children from their parents. Those children are mirroring the values of the adult population with the benefit that they allow the perception to be crystal clear (because the adult population often embelishes those responses in order to be more "socially acceptable" or whatever). The irony is that what is considered "socially acceptable" by the adult population is exactly what is not actually "socially acceptable" in their own views. This creates a world where people try to mask themselves in a way that seems "good" to others while they themselves are selfish and lack values. This is what those children are mirroring. Those children can do that because they live with their parents and whne their parents are at home, out of a social situation, they show who they truly are.

Want to turn the world over to them and the likes of MetaKron?
The world IS controlled by people who have such values.

Maybe you just are fucked up people?

So the best thing in the world to anyone is themselves - the fact that they exist. But it sounds so egotistical when I say it :pActually your right. You can't feel good about others unless you feel good about yourself. Ultimately, everything we do is "selfish." Even if it means sacrificing our life for another: it means we consider our own life to be "selfishly" better than the other, so we sacrifice it for another.

It's a paradox. But I do like to think that some of us - myself included - are altruistic and always ready to help others.

I actually spelled eminem's name wrong on purpose (due to strange sense of humor). I didn't think anyone thought I was serious about it, because it is spelled so extremely wrong and eminem spelled M&M wrong to prevent lawsuites. A case of reverse spelling humour combined with a general observation of a below level of language control of the average american teenager.

I guess it only humoured myself.

my bad...

(that last statement is also a statement of humour based on american pop culture. I know it ain't correct english.)

(i know 'ain't' ain't correct either)

Sadly, too many people waste their lives running after their own tails.....

valich
12-28-05, 08:17 PM
Darn it! Why can't I catch my own tail! I keep going round-an-round in circles!

I agree, but I don't think that I do that. For instance, many people try to seek revenge through court cases that lead nowhere, but in doing so they just relive their terrible pasts, instead of just forgetting the whole thing and moving forward. I totally disagree with psychoanalysists (Freudian psychologists) who think they are helping their patients through this approach.

But doesn't this happen on sciforum too? When people start getting into useless mud-slinging arguments that lead to nowhere?

Life is life-long learning: life-long education. That's where it's it. That's what it's all about. Progress, advance, and move forward in both thought, education, and experience.
