I haven't been here in a while so I'm not sure if anyone has started anything on the Animatrix yet. What it is is a nine-part series of short stories being used by the Wachowskies (sp?) to fill in the gaps before and in between the two new Matrix movies coming out this year. They are all directed by famous anime directors and one is actually going to be shown with the Warner Brothers movie, Dreamcatcher. That short is called the Final Flight of the Osiris and it is going to be made by the same studio that made FF: TSW. In June, they are going to release a DVD with all nine episodes on it. If you look for the first two, you can find them on the net, but they only run on Quicktime. What I'm really getting it is, if anyone has seen them what do you think about them?? So far, I think they are awesome. If you've got an opinion, tell me.

I saw the first two eps already, and they're pretty good. I converted to vcd so I could watch on a TV. I'll prob end up buying the Animatrix DVD when it comes out.

I saw "The Final Flight of the Osiris" when I went to see Dreamcatcher last weekend, and it was awesome. I was all pumped up, so I visited the website as soon as I got home, hoping to see more of the same. To my surprise and extreme dissapointment, the ones on the sight were Japanamation. I can't believe they would ruin something as fine as the Matrix by Japanamizing it.

While I haven't seen the Animatrix yet, so I can't remark on its quality, I would agree that some things don't translate between genres and medias well, but not say that all anime sucks.

Not to offend, but people like you are always just looking at the surface of thingds that they don't like and aren't willing to look past it, at the story. My brother does that and I hate it. I bet you didn't even watch the other three, which all came out before FFotO. This isn't that *** stuff you see on Cartoon Network, it is high quality. Why don't you watch other stuff by some of those directors and find out that after a while, you forget that it is even a cartoon. I think people need to realize that just because someone drew it, that doesn't mean that it has to be for children. If people on this site are so in support of alternative forms of film-making than show some f***ing support for these people's hard work. These films sure take a hell of a lot longer to make than live action ones.

Moderator Edit: I don't consider this post an insult, but an opinion. Just watch the language.

Dude, get out of 1987! No one calls it "Japanimation" anymore, it's anime!

Hahahahaha dude... you'd be surprised...you'd be surprised. Allthe grown ups or people that have no interest in Anime call it That. Also Anime didn't ruin the animatrix...i mean DJ Erock did you even see the one titled Program...it was amazing. You probably complain because you have never seen good anime.....Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh are BS see Cowboy Bebop or Perfect Blue.....Trigun is also good.

Definetily concur. "Japanimation" is such an ugly word it almost sounds like a curseword to me.. PLEASE don't use it.

Sidenote: My post saying the exact same thing as yours got deleted. Go figure.

I'm not about to start a pissing contest with the mods, but this ambiguity is kinda interesting.

That's funny that you would say something like that because the Wachowskis have said that they wanted The Matrix to be like an Anime comic book brought to the live screen. So putting it back for the Animatrix is logical in that sense.

Anton...funny you should mention that because The Matrix was inspired by a Japanese manga....infact a lot of the popular scenes from the matrix were downright taken from the Manga

The shot in the first film after trinity holds a gun to an agents head and says "Dodge this", in wich it goes to a wide slomo shot where she pulls the trigger, and her arm comes up just slightly as he falls to the ground is a shot taken directly from Armitage III polymatrix (Which was not a sequil, by the way, the japanese just have aparently not masterd the art of using roman numerals in movie titles)

The sceen in the second film in which Trinity is falling from the window of an office building in slowmo with guns blazing is a take off on both the opening scene from Ghost in the Shell, and a video game called "Max Payne" which came out after the first matrix film, and borrowed the idea of Bullet time for some really cool gameplay (The result was about a thousand scenes which looked just like triniti's falling).

Umm actually that "dodge this scene" was exactly like that in the manga....with the same character. I have seen it myself so BS here.

Don;t know the name but i remember seeing it in the making of matrix special. Obviously that manga was a big influence on the creators and no they weren't story boards i was looking at.

I don't know if anyone watches the show Extended Play (now X-Play) but they said that, with the PC version of Max Payne and this special Kung-Fu mod that some guy spent about two years making, the game actually becomes a better Matrix game than Enter the Matrix itself! if anyone can prove this, tell me.

Haha, well I can't prove it, because it's a subjective opinion, but yes I've played both the Matrix game and Max Payne with it's Kung-fu mod (which has been out much longer than the matrix game) and I can say that both are quite enjoyable, and the Kung-fu mod is certainly comperable to the moves in Enter the matrix.
