This is actually an interesting question --- although you're making a bit of a leap with your correlations related to "psychological attachment" as applied to yourself (estrogen = closeness; testosterone = lust).
Those things certainly relate with the stereotypical "male" strategy vs the typical "female", but I would question whether it was due to the presence of hormones, or social influences. Who's to say that a person with high testosterone wouldn't associate "feeling closer" with "sex"?

I believe estrogen= growth. Thats why girls start puberty sooner than boys do. Estrogen levels increase when an ovum is growing. Oxytocin is the "closeness" hormone apparently. And men have more of this hormone after a sexual encounter while women generally have higher levels all of the time.

BUT I do know a few things about the effects of high testosterone levels. When I leave the gym everyday, I feel very masculine. I feel like I want to punch people in the face and treat sluts the way they deserve to be treated: like a toy that is to be thrown away after it's used. It feels as if nothing can stop me.

Impregnate as many females as possible. A female on the other hand should be choosy because she must invest a lot more energy into the outcome. It would be my guess that yes either steroid hormone probably plays a part but I would argue that it is much more fundamental than just these two hormones and probably has a structural basis in the brain CNS.

Or maybe these hormones have such a dramatic effect on the brain at an early age that the changes wrought determine affection well into adulthood.

But I think that we can agree that the differences between women and men have to do with energy investment with the men having evolved to be less picky and women being evolved to be more picky. I've sometimes heard lay women say they are more evolved, while men are still in a lower animal state. And really beleif it. A kind of ad hoc explanation for male promiscuity. I try to explain that's just not the case - we have evolved to try and impregnate as many females as is possible.

On the subject of any thoughts you have, I know from experience with my sister when she was younger, she was all too quick for growing up and found herself in many situations that she didn't tell me about until it was too late. Now I can point out what concerns you should have from "Life Experience" and perhaps what you should concentrate on.

Obviously Identifying what you want to do in life is important, Make sure you knuckle down in College. While obviously you'll have distractions appear from time to time (wild parties, boys and things that you shouldn't get involved with like drink/drugs) what should be important to you is setting yourself up for a career in the future and this usually requires being serious about your schooling.

Obviously you might have teachers or perhaps your father perhaps "bore" you about how important it is, however once you've studied and picked a direction when you reach 21 years, the world would be your oyster, You can do whatever you want and be your own strong, independent woman.

The path you don't want to take is getting involved with a boy or man for that matter, get pregnant in your late teens and have a child. It would mess up you life, you'd find it difficult to ever obtain a decent career choice.
While some ladies on this website might have had children at a young age and perhaps don't feel a failure in their current way of life, I'm sure they sometimes they think of regrets that perhaps they didn't hold off on making that choice until they were through their education.

You see education is important because while you are young, your mind is pliable to any given direction as you get older learning becomes harder, it requires more time. Namely 6-7 years in education while a teenager is like 15+ years of education as an adult. So while getting educated might seem a chore to a teenager, it's actually saving you years of retraining in the future.

I'd suggest you think about what you want to do in life, in fact I glimpsed your post on what you mentioned about your father saying about what is important in life. While working out where you want to go is important, as without working out a goal you'll be walking through life like a lost soul. There are many Career choices and obviously being on a Science forum you should have the chance to explore what you are interested in. (remember to pick a career that you are interested in and enjoy, no point torturing yourself just for the sake of having a direction, enjoying it will aid your goal.)

I'd also suggest telling the Boys/Guys where to go should they try anything, I'm sure you'll be attractive at the age of 21 and will probably be fighting them off even then, so there is no point rushing into things now.

The fact still remains there is a different energy investment between men and women in terms of offspring. We both agree to this. The Uni I work at gives an ethical lecture in the medical program where doctors are taught to expect girls of around 12 years old to come in and have questions about sex and also to have had sex. Yes, a lot of people were shocked - especially the mothers in the class. But, tough, this is the reality of the situation today. I think it sucks but that's the fact.

My younger sister got herself pregnant at 15, then dropped out of school and then left home. It was a tough time. She came back after her boy friend left and she was ready to deliver. Now she's 21 has two kids (the boy friend came back - still doesn't work though) and is completing her nursing degree. Life worked out for her - but it was tough. A lot of people said it was good for her to grow up. I think it was sad she had to grow up so soon.

My personal opinion, if I had a daughter, would be to try and stress - wait to Uni. I don't know if that's just my 80s generation talking? But that's the advice anyway. Spend your energy running, learning Chinese calligraphy, learning to play a digereedo, painting, reading.
