This poll is for testing the quorum of 100 votes in a recommended time of one week.
It is my hypothesis that the quorum of 100 votes is unreasonable either the recommended limit time should be much longer or the quorum should be dropped. this poll is set to unlimited time (to see how long it takes to reach 100 votes) also please vote as you would on any other thread, don't make sure to vote just to spite me this is science I'm trying to pretend like its unbiased and a relatively accurate simulation of other polls.

I'm inclined to agree with you. I think it is too much to expect 100 votes in a week. Many polls don't get that many votes, even when they stay open indefinitely.

Well It looks like two of our members are fish. :rolleyes: maybe I should have had just one poll choice ("yes")

Also if someone does not want a poll to pass they simple do not need to vote in the poll, this way the quorum is never meet.

It has been 1 week and only 1/5 of the needed votes has come in! It is my recommendation that the quorum be reduced from 100 to 20.

Honestly, though, I do think it should be reduced to 20. Maybe 30, but 100 is far too much. I don't think that many people will vote on any polls.

Hey WCF, as soon as I saw your poll, I rushed to inform you that in fact, I do breathe air. However, in conduting your survey you also turn up the question, who is voting to create this quorum? 100 votes or 20, are these random passers by, or people with a genuine interest in whatever is being voted upon and the welfare of the site?

I mean, who the heck is Silverback and do we really want him voting on (whatever issue)? ;)

i'm a candy fish, but i'm also an interested voter. hoooowever i don't get around to looking at this forum very often. once a week at most. a week is not long enough at all.

It has been two months now and its not even at 50%!!!

From the results so far, it looks like 10 people don't breath air.! If the quorum is, say, less than 20 there is a possibility that these fishes might win the poll. :D

yeah, 100 is a big target. 50 is ok.? or depending on the sensation of the poll topic and polling rate the quorum could be determined.?

During the time of only 20 people only 3 of them where fish.

The result depends on polling rate of each group also. If the early birds were fishes then fish wins.

Okay so maybe you could adjust it so what this software's authors call a quorum will happen but that doesn't necessarily mean its a quorum and I really doubt whether any one in their right mind would call these polls neither. If you are truly looking for something that really works without tongue in cheek slapping on of the rich sounding labels, I kind of doubt if you're going to find it in any current online forum packages. All of this internet stuff is still in its infancy though and human volition sure seems to seek more decent ways to communicate so, either make it or wait. I'm looking seriously enough to C# that I enrolled in an online course today with one of my local colleges.

BTW, I didn't vote. Wouldn't want to bias the experiment if I were to want to analyze it.

I just think there should not be a quorum period. Profiry should just be honest and say he will decide when a poll is valid or not.

Just a thought. Seems to me that the poster wanting a poll might PM the moderator and moderators could limit who could vote - depending on the issue.

This might require another tier of administration where there is now general membership but only certain members are granted standing in particular forums. i.e. - levels of qualification by area.

I - None
II - Student
III - Phd
IV - etc.

Depending on how many members are qualified to vote could then result in a variable quorum system.
