Top track of 2005, according to tranceaddict:
    Perasma - Swing 2 Harmony
However I think the above is a little overrated. Quantity of remixes doesn't necessarily mean quality. I prefer:

Gabriel & Dresden - Athena (mashed with) Pass into Silence - Voices (the intro mix)
Above & Beyond - Air for Life
    Tilt - 12
Armin van Buuren feat. Gabriel & Dresden - Zocalo
    Emery, Kirsch - Lose Yourself
Dominic Plaza - Sounds Rushing (David West remix)
    Icone - The Way Home

These are a few of my recent favs. Some great stuff there.

Paul Oakenfold and Paul Van Dyke are artists I enjoy immensely.

A few of my favs are:

Paul Oakenfold - Ready, Steady, Go

Although overused it's still a kicking tune. Featured in my favourite movie, The Bourne Identity and the slight mix found in Collateral. I remember hearing this years back when I saw him live (didn't know who he was back then) and the intro reminded mee of music I liked from an old PlayStation game; Firestorm.

    Paul Van Dyke - Avenue

I heard this on the Wip3out soundtrack a few years back and instantly fell in love with it. I get that warm fuzzy feeling in my chest when I hear it and just have to start moving.

    The Prodigy - Spitfire

I could name a dozen songs of theirs but this one really does stick out for me. I went mental when I heard this live a few months back. I simply love it.

Future Sound of London - We Have Explosive

    Come on, it's a classic!

    Orbital - Halcyon + On + On

One of my ultimate chill out tunes

    Psilly-X - Manojalpa

I got this from Download.com's music area and it's incredible. I think you can still get it on there, I'll find a link later but I recommend it.

    Paul Oakenfold - Burns Attack

Alright, I'll raise my hand. I first heard this as the first piece of music that was featured on Appleseed 2004 and instantly had to have it.

    Franka Potente - I Believe

Aside from the fact that I fancy the pants off of her, this track is one of my favourites. It was featured in the German movie, Lola Rennt (Run, Lola, Run).

CoLD SToRAGE - Body in Motion

Admit it, anyone who ever played WipEout 2o97 loved this track.

    BT - Race Wars

    Gets me moving.

    Fluke - Snapshot

What can I say, I just enjoy listening to it.

You can probably see what kind of electronica I tend to favour from my list but I will be attempting to have a listen to most recommendations listened here by other people. Good way to find new music

Which ones do you regard as the most melodic, Thor?
I'm looking for something I might like.

Melodic eh, depends on what kind you're looking for.

If it's vocally melodic you're after then why not give The Melody by JB Transwave a try (Free download from Download.com here: JB Transwave - The Melody.mp3

If it's instrumental, probably CoLD SToRAGE's Body in Motion might be adequate CoLD SToRAGE Official MP3 Page

I'm off to work now, but when I get back I'll listen to the stuff you recommended again and see if I know of anything that takes your fancy. Although I've been listening to a few of these artists for some time, I'm still an electronica newbie.

    Best trance: Astral Projection

As far as the best trance song... Astral Projection - Dancing Galaxy.

Techno... I think crystal method is just some crazy awesome stuff... and chemical brothers are awesome too...

There is a lot of crappy dance techno out there now adays.... beware

Yeah, I like the two Pauls, also DJ Tiesto. Although they're all I'm really familiar with as a whole, otherwise it's a bunch of other random songs by a bunch of various DJs who I don't know of due to listening to a bunch of my sister's old mixes and also being a *cough* arrrgh, scurvy rat, matey!

Some oldies are nice, but that was before I started liking techno trance of the early 2000s and beyond.

Wow, this thread is heaven. Techno/trance is the best music, especially when I'm doing my homework. Has anyone seen the movie Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior? If so, where can I find more of the music featured in that movie? I bought the soundtrack, but I want more!

the music structure beat/loop/rythem/etc are based upon natural crystals.

i dont like trance music though personally, you need to be on E or something to enjoy that music.

    peace.

That's a bit stereotypical of you Chi. Hardest drug I've ever done is caffiene and I enjoy the odd bit of trance. Tis good to listen to when your adrenaline levels are up in the nosebleed zones!

Also, I've been listening to a bit of Above and Beyond lately, good recommendation!

The ones with a lot of sawtooth-derived timbres and BPMs exceeding 145 are probably the ones you're talking about. I don't listen to that hardcore stuff.

I listen to 125-135 BPM trance, in general.

Personally, I dont listen to much trance just on the average day. But give me a dark room with a good sound system.... turn up the music really loud, lay down and just think about the music.... immerse your imagination in it... and thats when trance is really coooool music.

    (no drugs involved)

true your right, that was a bad statement of me to make im sorry for that, it is my bias personal opinion wich others might not agree with,

i should have stated it as my opinion, not as if it were a fact that isnt subjective to personal opinion,

    peace.

Great early suggestions, keep them coming. I'm sure there are more people who listen to techno/trance/electro hip-hop.

I am willing to pay anyone $50 if they can somehow find an original vinyl or cd of
    Dos Deviants - Elevate
This piece is popular from Tiesto's Magik 2 (story of the fall), as the song which follows PvD's famous 1998 Binary Finary. However, all the forms I have ever encountered are extracted as part of the mix with Magik 2.

Some good ones from the 'Golden Age' around the turn of the millennium/late 90s:

Veracocha - Carte Blanche (the 2nd release, more hyped up than the original, which is still good, i dunno what mix it is called)
    Tiesto - Suburban Train
    Gouryella - Walhalla
    CJ Stone - Shining Star
    Rank 1 - Breathing
Mauro Picotto - Komodo (original or Megavoices, they're both pretty nice)
Solid Sessions - Janeiro (AvB rmx and another remix whose name I forgot, but not James Holden - possibly the original)
Cass & Slide - Perception (new vocal mix)
