Talking and Movement in Sleep

Let me preface this by saying I, myself am not noticing any real problems with how I sleep except feeling as though no matter how much I sleep, I'm usually tired. However, my partner is forced to sleep in a different bed 2 nights a week due to my movement, snoring and talking while I'm asleep. I usually don't wake up during the night and if I do it's because he has moved from waking up.

My family has a history of sleep apnea and this could be a possible cause with a solution. I'm still curious with the sleep talking. Within my research of sleep apnea I haven't seen any signs/symptoms being sleep talking.

What I'd like to have discussed in this thread are possible reasons I may be talking in my sleep so frequently. I also sleep with my eyes open; enough for a friend, my mother and now my partner to all see it occur more than once.

I know the obvious first choice would be to see if I have sleep apnea and treat it to see if any other problems(ie- the sleep talking) go away with it. That isn't an option at the moment as I am a college student with no money for medical bills.

Thank you for your responses & welcome to my first thread.

    edit: I'm 18 years old.

You nailed the problem with "...I am a college student with no money for..."

--Reduce your anxiety levels by "clearing the decks" of trivial unfinished side-projects.
    --Get some fresh air.
    --Don't sweat it...it gets better.
--There is a flower extract from Chinese herbal recipes that actually works on snoring. One part of the recipe keeps your mouth closed, the other opens your nostril pathways.

There are a lot of things that could be contributing to this.

Do you have nightmares when you sleep? I have violent nightmares and have been known not only to talk ( read scream) but also to throw things, strip, punch, fight, strip the bed ( and throw the bed clothes!), ect.

PTSD could also be to "blame" for your talking/moving in your sleep as well has sleeping with your eyes open

Stress could be the culprit, especially if you're a college student

some medications can cause this ( as well as nightmares/terrors)

and the of course the sleep apnea

( other causes can be metal illness and/or substance abuse, but if you had those issues you'd likely not be asking us about it, eh?)

talk to your school health center if you are really concerned. They have folks there than can refer you to low/no cost care if need be.

    Hope that helps.

    andi 3k;

I usually don't remember my dreams and I haven't had any nightmares recently, yet I'm still moving around a LOT, talking and having conversations in my sleep.

In the past and in general history, the only dreams I -DO- remember are one's where I'm being chased to be killed/poisoned/whatever... Dying.

With regard to stress, I'm not really that stressed out. I'm handling school well and even on Winter Break with no school involved, it's still happening.

    I don't take any medications.

I'll be talking with my school health clinic soon after I get scholarship money I'm waiting on.

So I can do something about it.

Thanks for the replies & the chinese herb recipe sounds intriguing- I've been seeking natural medications for things like headaches. I'll see if it helps with snoring.
