    this is for one raven

I was thinking of buying a really old wooden TV and turning it into a theamed fish tank

The idea i really want to go with is super mario brothers because its one of the easiest to do and it would look cool

Some of the other ideas i had were more out there, the whole idea is to make it look like the TV is actually playing something, and not a TV show on fish tanks

So maybe a scifi scean or a minture grave yard.

Also i thought about doing a miniturised sunken city like atlantus, something like that

Maybe you can make it like the fish aren't swimming, but flying.
Make it like a small city scene with a crashed UFO, and little figurines pointing up to the flying aliens in the sky with terrified looks.
Maybe some army guys taking aim at the sky.

It would be news coverage of the invasion.

the difficulty with something like that is getting the parts. You cant just go and buy action figures and stick them in a fish tank. Even if they are people safe they tend to leach halmful toxins into the water which kills the fish.

The advantage of the mario one is that PVC pipes are safe and i can buy fish tank safe pain which means i can make the pipes for it with out much trouble. Then its just a case of finding mario and his brother to stick in there.

With something like your suggesting it would be impossable to find ready made parts so i would have to do it compleatly from scratch which makes it dificult to find safe materials

You're not willing to fabricate all the parts from PVC?
    Don't you love your fish?

What about a model of the Krusty Krab?

What other ideas did you have?

What other ideas can people come up with?

This could be in interesting thread.
    Maybe with pictures.

i dont have the skill to make things like that. My skills are in med, fish care ect not in molding PVC, besides which i wouldnt even know if PVC like that is safe. The PVC water piping is because its designed to carry water for our drinking surplie. I dont know if its treated or specific to give that safty.

The only reason i know its safe is because one of the fish shops i go to uses it to keep there coral for sale in, not very atractive but effective

you talking about the planet from Dune?

if you are thats possable, there are certain types of sand that can be used as the base for fish tanks (non marine i mean, all marine tanks use sand oviously).

Making dunes is harder though because the sand doesnt want to pile up like that in such a small area

I once made a fish aquarium, salt water, out of a 50 gallon whiskey barrel. I don't have any photos of it however to show. I fiberglassed the inside after cutting the top, bottom and a 2X3 window on the side in it. Then used acrylic to replace the things I removed so that you could view it from the sides or front. I made 4 legs that looked like a pier piling and an old , large anchor chain to join them together. Then I put the barrel onto the chain and it was very nice to watch the fish swimming around in there. Unfortunately a hurricane came and the electricity was cut off for a few weeks and everything died. I sold it shortly thereafter for I didn't want to loose all of those fish ever again, to much money spent on those fish to see go down the drain.

    That is definitely "Macgyver worthy"

All you needed was a fake gun attached to the side of it ..you know.. for "shooting fish in a barrel".

cosmic your very correct, its VERY expensive to lose the fist in a marine tank, even more so if its coral.

If you had fish alone you do know there are chemical type filters that could have kept them alive though dont you?

The main issue is keeping it warm without power (or cool if you live in a hot area), you can churn the water by hand and use chemicals to replace the filtration but nothing i know about will keep a tank at the right temp with no power

There wasn't any chemical filters in the 1960's available. The fish and coral I had all died and yes it was rather expensive even back then.

its actually not recomended that you use this type of filtration (course if you have coral there is no point, with no lighting they will die anyway) because its so effective it staves all the bacteria and if its not changed EXACTLY when it needs to be you end up with new tank syndrom effectivily. That being said, if the filter was dead and there was still some way to keep the tank warm it would be worth a shot to use it
