As a hurricane approaches we see reporters from just about every news station, both local and national, standing in blowing wind telling us how it feels. Does everyone realized that those winds are usually less than 50 miles per hour? Why do they not tell everyone what the actual winds are? Could it be that people are not so inclined to evacuate because they are led to believe that this is what a hurricane is like? Are these reporters doing residents who are in the path of a hurricane a disservice by implying it isn't so bad? I would like to know from those who have never been in a hurricane and see this type of reporting if they understand how powerful 100 mile an hour winds really are. Am I off base on this or do reporters share some of the blame for causing a false reality for those without hurricane experience?

One must also consider the safety of the reporter. Granted, they do not usually tell you how far from the actual storm they are, but I feel the addition of this information alone would be adequate in relaying the danger of a hurricane. Furthermore, I have never been in a hurricane, but I guarantee you that anyone who has lived in a tornado prone state (myself included) understands perfectly what 100 mi/hr winds can do. I don't think it's faulty reporting that leads people to remain in the path of danger.

Well I've never been in a hurricane but I know how powerful winds can be. I remember once driving up to Las Vegas and getting hit by a huge gust of wind instantly pushing my car into the next lane. Thank goodness nobody was in the other lane.

But yes, I agree for those not aware. Reporters standing out there like nothing usually far away. Hey though, that's the manipulation television can do. Be miles away from where the scary shit is and make it look like that's where they are. The view from television is too limited which allows them to make you believe anything they want you to.

Reporters are basically pussies. They, and you, have no idea of what 150 mph winds are actually like. I espouse the idea that most people in america the great are nothing more than fucking cunts.

Ignoramous: "nothing more than fucking cunts."

Your lack of intelligence speaks for itself. I consider you cloaked.
