i was wondering if it would be possible to make drugs like cocaine and heroin synthetically? if so anyone know how this could be done?

:o :m: :p

It's possible to make any chemical you want synthetically -- some with much more difficulty than others. It just happens that economically, it's easier to harvest plants which produce it for you.

organic chemistry....just put the molecules together like pieces of a puzzle...and, VOILA.....a synthetic drug.

Illegal drugs like cocaine are especially difficult to synthesize because governments usually restrict access to the immediate synthetic precursors as well as the actual drug. You could still synthesize an illegal drug if you were knowledgeable enough, but fortunately most drug dealers are either too stupid, lazy, or impatient to sit through years of chemistry classes.

Heroin is only semi synthetic. Ya take morphine from refined opium, trick it up with some acetyl anhydride or acetyl chloride, dry it out et, you got heroin. Cocaine would probably prove to be very hard to synthesise, like LSD is. Amphetamines and ecstacy are relatively easy to make compared to everything else... i hear making PCP is relatively easy too.. :m:

Oh PS - narcotic can be used in two different ways. The scientific way, narcotic means a drug that causes euphoria and drowsiness (morphine, heroin, opiates, etc). The american legal term narcotic, is just an illegal drug.
