Why did SciFi change their name to SyFy? Do you like the name change? I think it's alright it just seems odd they suddenly decide to change their name?
I don't like the name change and have no idea why they did it. The old name actually made sense, for one thing.
Yeah, here's something I found: Syfy — unlike the generic entertainment category “sci-fi” firmly establishes a uniquely ownable trademark that is portable across all non-linear digital platforms ... What's a non-linear digital platform thingy? Really, they want to expand their core business so they can have the SyFy Kids channel, SyFy happy meals, etc.... they own SyFy whereas they couldn't own SciFi. I guess it doesn't matter so much to me. I just wondered what was going on. I hope they continue to show mostly SciFi!
I read the news a few months ago that they were planning to do this. In addition, they are planning to re-do the programming into a "less geeky" format. The problem is that their current format was NOT geeky (they show wrestling for chrissakes!). Geeky would have been if they still showed stuff like Mystery Science Theater all the time. ....oh well. I removed it from my channel lineup in my favorites menu. I feel like saying a eulogy for it or something. ......on a side note, assuming I had the money, I wonder if I could make my own station and call it "SciFi Network" since they aren't using it any more?
That channel has so many repeats it drives me nutz! It also has wrestling and infomercials up the ying yang as well. They changed the name so you'd think they would be changing their lineups but nothing new that is worth while that I have seen. Whorehouse 13 really isn't that great , a knockoff of ghost stories.
SyFy is a stupid name I think. I would't mind it so much if they would just play the damn shows in order instead of say ep.1 this week then ep. 21 the next. I mean, is it to much to ask for them to play the shows in order?
This is the most logical and likely correct explanation! I was wondering why they'd "dumbed down" the spelling...
