My son was playing Resident Evil III when he got eaten by a lake monster. He just didn't expect that. We got to talking and I think the most surprising moment I've had is finding out Samus (Metroid) was a girl. Oh, the death of Aries was surprising too.

Lady Sialeeds (the aunt of the protagonist who was fighting with him up to that point) betraying my 'Falena Liberation Force' (I named it myself) in Gensou Suikoden V came as a bit of a surprise.

PC's Baldur's Gate series finding Imoen is also a bhaalspawn and that Serevok joins you in TOB. Very cool story.

Orochi appearing as a boss so early in Okami. Awesome game.

Midna's true form in Twilight Princess.

Bridget in Guilty Gears series is actually a guy.

Solid Snake will be in Super Smash Bros Brawl. OMG I still can't believe it. How cool is that!?...
