So we managed to raise the $600 target set - this is fantastic. We'll be moving to a new home in the next few days. Thanks everyone!

Sweet.
Thanks everyone.
Maybe, if those involved don't mind, a congratulatory thread for the contributors should be made. I didn't contribute, I'm afraid. I'm a bit short at the moment. But. The next time around. I'll be on it.

That was fast... I was off the forum for a few days and all of a sudden this happens. You should have asked for more money :).

Glad you are happy Porfiry. Felt kind of bad knowing that you were unhappy. Have a great day! (or night, probably)

I look forward to the next donor drive. Obviously, we do much appreciate Sf, Dave- and the work you have done to keep it alive.

I doubt Porfiry would turn away any extra donations, since it's the difference between picking a mediocre server and one thats the shiznit.

I would have contributed, myself, if not for the lawsuit concerning an accusation about pedophilia.
Nevertheless it is commendable that new hardware will now be purchased.

Hey, listen….I’m kind of short these days and you guys have $600, at least, …..can you spare a few hundred until next week?

Donation usually work.... :)

Normally, big sites leave a link for donations all the time, in case members want to continue contribuiting to it. That way, they never have this problem again....

This contribution or donation thing should be left open. I would want to donate after a month or so (when i earn some money ;) from those weird summer jobs)

I mea i remember there used to a paypal icon that was always below that black band on the site...click on it and pay...so...

I would only ask for donations when they are needed. By putting on a donation site link it becomes just another eyesore and most people just don't look at it after awhile.

I also did not contribute, since it took me longer to install, activate and send money to my paypall account than it did to raise the funds for sciforums, so thanks to all those who did send money. Great job.

The value was having a clear goal and objective that was also very visible. Like most things in life, without a goal things tend not to happen.

A permanently open donation box is unlikely to be as effective as this tightly focused version.

Cris is absolutely right. A specific target was necessary. I'll put the money directly to paying for hosting costs. When the $600 runs out (hopefully I can make it last for a while), I'll run another specific campaign. Until then, the site will run sans begging.

You might consider giving us a bit more of a heads up next time though. Give us a chance to gather some resources. More would have donated, I'm sure, if they'd had a week or two in which to prepare.

People want to donate more. I don't see why not, even if it is just for a little while...

Yeah, put the donation box back up for one week. See that everyone who wanted to donate are given the opportunity, and then you have a little cushion Porfiry.

If the current server can hold up under our load, then the $600 should manage to keep us running for a year at least, hopefully more. When the need arises, I will run another donation campaign. Feel free to save up your pennies for that, but until then let's just all relax and stop worrying about whether the site will around, because I think it's future is now very secure.

Just as a sidenote, it seems that some people want to donate more because they want more features.

Looks like we all really saved sciforums... :)
