I think I remember using <> surrounding sub & /sub for subscripts and similar syntax for superscripts/exponents.

We probably need: [sup] for superscript [sub] for subscript [strike] for those striked texts. Of course any additions will also need the bbcode FAQ sheet also updated so people know what is available and how to use it.
