Well, I guess I'm gonna be a full time linux user for the lif of this PC now. One day my win98 partiton got corrupted or something. I tried to reformat and reinstall, but it would'nt complete. Then I tried my XP disc, and it couldn't install either. Then I formated with a linux filesystem and works perfectly. So seeing as how I cannot possibly get windows working again without buying new hardware, I'm gonna be strictly using linux from now on.

I've been using linux for over a year for normal tasks, and windows only for gaming. This really just makes it formal.

After using almost any other operating system you realize how dull Windows can be.

I have windows on my laptop only because Intel hasn't released drivers for centrino yet, WHICH THEY PROMISED TO DO SIX MONTHS AGO! Mumblemublemumble...

Otherwise all my computers are running something else, this one is running Gentoo Linux.

Ive used quite a few different releases of Linux including SuSe, Redhat, and Mandrake. Redhat seems to be the best for my needs. I have been using a Windows/Linux split partition for about 2 years now; the only reason that im ot on a fully Linux system is I have a winmodem...and yes, Im much to lazy and poor to buy a new modem.

We may be getting satalite internet soon; then its all Linux power baby!

Many winmodems have linux drivers now(about 1/4 of them). Have you looked into it recently?

Btw I just cleaned a File of an old virus win32/CIH. What the viruses payload was, that on the 26th of Each month, any Windows 95 or 98 systems would attempt to write corruption data to the systems BIOS if it was FLASHable.

This meant the corruption of partitions and the Loss of data. Maybe thats what happened to your 'puter [/b]Chaosin[/b]

As for Winmodems, it is true that the Drivers are now starting to appear here and there for them, they certainly have taken their time though.

It's also given a clue as to why a few LAN cards will not work in linux too (It's pretty much anything that was Plug and Play or Windows related)

Presently I've just been trying to get an old P1 100mhz up to run a few old Peripherals that won't install on the newer windows systems. I would run linux fully but the shear problem is that a few peripherals would not be supported on each of my systems which is a real shame.

Perhaps I might get around to working out how to write drivers in the future, who knows.
