hey guys,
im a pretty keen physics 14 yr old, mum tried to explain the string theory to me, absolute disaster can someone give it to me in Laymans terms.

Many have tried. Few have succeeded. All I have heard about string theory that I could comprehend is that after about two decades in domination of the physics community and thousands of doctoral theses, no useful predictions have been seen from it.
don't waste your time on it, use wikipedia.com if you must know.

A good introduction to it is Brian Greene's book The Elegant Universe.
As a physicist, I'm not a big fan of string theory, mainly because it is largely untested against experiments at this stage. But, then again, I'm not an expert in that theory.
