I dont like adverts at all, I find them an extreme annoyance, but I do accept some good sites are financed by adverising so some adverts are inevitable. However advertisers are becoming more smart in their efforts to blast adverts at us. First we had the pop up, now everyones got wise to that; there are many good pop up blockers available so they've moved on to using more devious tactics.
The adverts which really annoy me (I could rant for ages about this I depise them so much) are the floating semi transparent adverts which hover over what I am trying to read, and worse still, those stay in the centre of the page, even if I scroll down or up.
I think this sort of advertising is fundametally immoral; as I do any website which puts a browser plug-in, spyware, adware, alters home page or in any way puts anything at all on my hard drive without my consent or knowledge, including cookies.
My view is that its my computer and I'll decide what stuff I want on it. Any attempt to hijack my settings, or load files onto my computer is basically a form of hacking and ought to be made illegal world-wide, or we stand no chance of enforcing the law.
My question is are there any really good advert stoppers out there, which can effectively block these floating adverts?
And has anyone ever sued these companies which put spyware and other crap on our computers? I say good luck to anyone who tries it, sue them for stress, hassle, invasion of privacy, intellectual burglary, infringement of human rights or anything else which is topical.
And if sucessful in court, I'd then like to see the names, addresses and pictures of the individuals (and their bosses) who made the decision to put spyware, and any other crap on our computers made public, then we can all sue them.
Rant over!!
Best wishes to all
