What, exactly is a sticky please?

heck knows. dont pay attention to it. oh, wait, like a sticky site rules? like those little yellow ones sticky on one side that people put on their computer/wall etc to remember things.:)

A sticky is a thread that is 'stuck' to the top of each area.

example, the site rules thread found in most areas i 'stuck' to the top so that people can always access it without searching.

A sticky is a thread that doesn't sink. It stays at the top until it is unstuck. It is reserved for stuff that either the members should know or of special interest or note.
