Hi. I'm fairly new to Sciforums and this is my first post. I'm a professional artist and amateur writer with a ot of enthusiasm for science but only some rudimentary scientific training. My interest in this forums isn't really that of hard science but more of as a reference for my writing.
So, what would it take to make a steam powered flying vehicle (Short of a miracle)?
Which of the Sciforums would be a better place for this post?

Hi, it might be better to stick a query in 'General Science', 'cos 'free thoughts' is a bit busy, and your thread could easily drop over to page 2 before many folks saw it or responded.
Problems with making a steam powered flying machine, is the power/weight ratio of the steam engine. They weigh so much, they struggle to get enough power to lift themselves, although various experimental models were made.
Anyway, go google, it's fascinating stuff.

not to mention the weight of the water and fuel

Yep. Well, I understand the inherent problems more or less. But thanks to the miracle of extremely light materials and the boredome of a bunch of enthusiastic scientists we now have man powered flying vehicles... well just one I think.
I'm wondering what sort of thing you'd have to do to make the equivalent powered by steam.
Anyway, I'll post this where you mentioned too. Thanks :D

What will U power the steam creation.

What will I power it with? Hmm. That's true. I didn't think much about the water problem.

Steam Powered air vehicles?...very likely...
If there are human powered air vehicles in existence...then steam power would probably provide enough power for an aircraft lift.

This thing is called Daedalus...and can fly and only be powered by humans

STUDY THE writing of TESLA, NIKOLA.... he invented a small compact turbine of 60% efficiency which weighed i think it was 20 lbs and put out 200 hp... on steam.
it was to drive his verticle takeoff airplane.. he also invented..
basically... the only thing that holds us back today.. its the lack of a small...
500 lb motor.. that can produce 3000 hp....
if we can build that motor... we will have flying cars.. no problem.
