That's Right, Lawyer Jokes Are Out
Provocateurs get arrested in New York for telling a lawyer joke
Activists for a group calling itself Americans for Legal Reform managed to get themselves arrested, apparently for offending an attorney with a lawyer joke. According to provocateur Harvey Kash, "They just can't take it ... this violates our First Amendment rights."
A spokesman for the Nassau County courts, Dan Bagnuola, alleged that Kash and his cohort Carl Lanzisera were "being abusive and causing a disturbance." According to an AP report (http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/apus_story.asp?category=1110&slug=Lawyer%20Jokes%20Arrests), the pair said that for years they have stood outside courthouses on Long Island and mocked lawyers.
And while the wisdom and productivity of that activity is left to each to judge or not, one piece of practical advice: the men are due in court next month on the disorderly conduct charge, but Kash now must also answer a DUI from a year and a half ago.
And on that count I can sympathize. But seriously, don't go looking for trouble with something like that hanging over your head. Common sense, indeed.
