I was thinking the same thing. Alicia Silverstone looked nice in that picture; just not Hollywood "glamorous".
Those paparazzi deliberately ambush people when they look their worst, because the public yearns to be able to say exactly what you just said. In addition those photos are shot from crappy angles without proper lighting and that can have a terrible impact on how anyone looks in a snapshot. Just look through the photos you've taken! I lived in Hollywood for ten years and I ran into quite a few actors and actresses having dinner or just shopping for groceries. (They don't all have servants.) Believe me, when they prepare themselves to go out in public using their own skill and their own dressing table just like we do, they do NOT look like us.Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Good-looking people have always migrated to Hollywood in the hope of getting a career in show biz, even if they had no talent. They often stayed and took jobs in the entertainment industry so they could be close to it, and naturally they married each other and had children. If you stand outside Hollywood High School at the end of class and watch those children walk out (well don't be too obvious or I suppose you'll be arrested for stalking), you will be blown away by their stunning good looks.
In my opinion, they do look bad because they are in a bad day. I live surrounded by a number of public figures and have seen many of their colleagues in real life. Stars can look bad, too, without photo effect or crappy angle. Sometimes it's because they are in bad habit like drinking too much alcohol, smoking, wrong diet, being overweight, stress, drugs, etc. Of course when they are in normal condition, they are generally above average.
Sorry, but I've seen so many pretty girls where I live..so many ... it's almost heart-breaking to see them lead a normal life while some nanas like Cameron Diaz make their catwalk on the red carpet. But hey...those pretty girls at least don't need to flaunt off with their beauty which makes them even more attractive. HAHAHAHAHA...
As most of the beautiful people who moved to Hollywood discovered, it takes more than good looks to break into show business. You also have to have some kind of talent for entertaining people. Acting, dancing, singing, comedy, rapping, or just being an unflappable emcee like Tom Bergeron.
