Some news concerning Stargate SG-1, for those of you that like it...

Season 7 started airing a few months ago. 11 episodes (half of the season) were aired on Sci Fi, and then they decided to take a breather. I'm guessing that the other half, 7x12 to 7x22, will air early in the new year.

Season 8 is scheduled to start airing later in 2004, and will be the final season.

Sci Fi got the go ahead to start with Stargate: Atlantis. It is set to premiere in the summer of 2004. Production is set to start in early 2004. The new series will debut alongside the upcoming eighth season of SG-1.

Stargate Atlantis will center on a secret Earth base left by the originators of the Stargate, buried among the ruins of the legendary city of Atlantis. A new team of explorers will travel to a distant galaxy, where a primitive human civilization is threatened by a sinister new enemy.

Stargate will debut as a two-hour movie event on Sci Fi and will feature crossover appearances by members of the SG-1 cast.

Sounds like scifi channel is pulling another Farscape. Airing half the episodes now, and waiting a year to air the other half. Why do they do this?

On the other hand I will look foward to SGA, it sounds interesting and might have some of the old characters from SG1.

They've done it for the past few years with Stargate... It is pretty normal.

And why they only do it with scifi shows is beyond me.

I remember watching Voyager and they would go off the air for like three months and then come back with new episodes.

Do they do that with shows like Friends? No, they don't. Probably has something to do with porduction.

With SG-1 you don't notice/mind so much because there isn't really a season long plot + there are a lot of stand-alone one off episodes. With Farscape it was (is?) really annoying because there are on going storylines which get interrupted + spoiled by huge gaps.

Yeah, they can put reruns on and they know people who watch the new series will probably watch the reruns too? I dunno ... What I do know is the way they do it lets England (and mee) watch the second half to the series first! :)

7x12 was ok, "What's with the guy from evil dead?"

SGA looks very interesting, I still haven't seen any SG1 beyond season 6 due to the fact that I don't get SciFi channel and new episodes aren't shown at all here in Canada, which is rediculous considering it's filmed in Vancouver.
