I thought it was good. Nice emotional ending. I was really pissed off though, that they left the city cloaked. I thought it would have been a nice ending for them to show the whole thing coming out into the open and having the people of Earth finally getting to know what was going on all around them. ~String
I was a bit underwhelmed by the ending. It wasn't bad as an episode, but it seems like they basically have abandoned the Pegasus Galaxy to the wraith problem for which they themselves are partly responsible. Then again, I assume the chances of our letting Atlantis return to Pegasus are zero. I'd assume that even if the chair device used to defend the Earth had not been destroyed, but doubly so once it had been. They might well return Teyla and Ronan to Pegasus, but the city likely stays put. They may or may not authorize an Earth team to be stationed there. I suppose that gives them something to tie up in the post-series made for DVD films. I have also always been skeptical of the cloaking of the city that somehow does not leave an obvious "depression" in the water where the invisible city sits. It's also not a wise move to take the city to San Francisco anyway. Problems happen, military cordons and cloaking devices fail. Who made that call? Why not San Diego? At least there's a naval base there (is there one in San Francisco?). Too many things triggered my Geekdar.
To me this series never really interested me. I never felt that it was that well written but did have some nice scenery, special effects and clothing in it. The acting wasn't very good as well. I didn't bother watching the final episode because I've really stopped watching it long before it came to its end, thankfully.
As all SciFi geeks should remember, near San Francisco is Alameda where they keep the "new-quee-ar wessels." The Navy? Naw. Now that it is over...I still miss Babylon5...best written very little holes....but Stargate is for teenagers...so it is perhaps OK. I wish J. Michael Straczynski writes another epic....good writers are hard to come by...
Good episode overall. My biggest beef was moving the chair. How did they even know it would still work? Are the weapons (the little spheres) still in Antarctica? Did they test it? Why in the hell would you move and thereby endanger earth's most important defense over some BS treaty especially since no other nation officially even knows about it? Furthermore, whether you had moved it or not, wouldn't you keep someone capable of operating it on site at all times? We don't just leave our nuclear silos sitting empty, we've got guys there ready to pull the trigger at any time. Why the fuck wasn't someone there at area 51 ready to jump into the chair the minute an alien vessel was detected? Again, good episode, but it seems like they ended the series a bit prematurely especially given SciFi Networks dearth of other halfway decent shows. (not counting, of course, BattleStar Galactica which will end soon as well). It was better than SG1's ending, anyway.
Hell yeah. I think they tried to stuff too much into that episode, a 2 part series would have been better. For example, the wormhole drive thing was a bit too convienient.
What I wouldn't give for that... B5 was cheesy at times, but damn what a story. You should try The Babylon Project if you haven't already, some of the campaigns are pretty good for being fan made.
Promo images for the Stargate: Atlantis episode (Season 5, Episode 20) “Enemy at the Gates”. That’s right. This is the final episode of Stargate: Atlantis before the cast and crew jet off into their very own series of made-for-DVD movies, following in the footsteps of the Stargate: SG1 gang. From the looks of these promos (VERY SPOILERISH, I must say), I guess we know who ends up with whom — at least at the end of the episode. And look whose back, Amanda Tapping! I would have also liked to see Torri Higginson make at least a cameo in the final episode of the TV show, but apparently that wasn’t to be. Too bad, she was really a great part of the show while she was on it.
