I want to understand more about "standing waves". Are these one kind of potential energy stored or somewhat tension/surface tension?

If we grind any salt with lactose or dissolve some salt in water & shake--can some standing waves be trapped/stored in the grinded/dissolved & shaked substances?

Can we say that standing ways are trapped or stored in strings of musical instruments, drumheads etc. OR is there any way to trap & store the waves? Furthur, how these can passes/travel through a media & how these can effect any media on their travel through that?
