Exactly what could be expected: a mixture of current styles in an overdramatized, entertainment-y format. These are the same guys that made Master of Puppets -- oh, wait, there WAS another guy. Get the gas and matches.

mmm... yes...

Well, they now have their own recording complex, personal offices, staff, so on...

What's his name just went through the dreaded "rehab" experience lately...
Don't know abot the others.

Their hotsy-totsy producer apparently decided that tossing his bag of tricks away and "forgeting everything he ever knew about his craft was the way to go...

Perhaps they have simply arrived at that point where they have nothing more to add...

You mean....you actually thought that Metallica might turn out something good? Fuck, the last decent album they made was Master of Puppets. The one and last.
Oh okay, so Black Album was decent.

Yes, but what does "decent" mean?

Master of Puppets was for its day brilliant... and St. Anger is? Does it have any "eternal" qualities?

Is that link a joke? It's pathetic what they've become. Master of Puppets wasn't decent Xev, it was fucking brilliant. Every song on that album is amazing. Orion and Damage Inc. are seriously amazing. Damn... they would've been somewhere if Burton was still there.

It's a joke.

Master of Puppets was quite astounding for the period it was released in.

As for Xtian Sodomy's query regarding whether St. Anger has any "eternal" qualitys, I don't believe so. I haven't heard the whole album, but it's rather like everything else on the radio.

I agree.

When I first heard it, I was wondering if early leaked versions of it were bogus, I thought I was being lead on and the stuff was a an intentional joke.

It's a deranged, hilarious Syndrome of a Down/Korn/Meshuggah mish-mash.

Most underground demos are of better quality production-wise, even though they purposely fucked the sound.

Metallica -WAS- Cliff Burton.
