I have just come across an issue I had with the program that helps remove spyware from your computer, Spybot, Search and Destroy.

In an effort to prevent spyware from getting to my computer, I put myself onto "High Security Level" or something like that, which rejects almost all cookies. I'm not very good with the internet, but it's under Tools>Internet Options.

Then, I told Spybot S&D to prevent me from accessing Internet Tools, as it told me Spyware programs will sometimes go in there and tamper with them. But now, I realize that I can no longer log into certain sites without having myself at a lower security level. But, I cannot access the window where I can alter security. And, when I go into Spybot, I've looked under every tab and in the Help section, but I can't re-enable cookies. So, if I log out of any sites that I'm registered to, I can't get back in.

Please help, this is important to me.

    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried uninstalling Spybot? Dont think it will help but you never know

Get a copy of Xsetup (formally Xteq)

Once you've downloaded and installed it go >Internet\Internet Explorer\
Restrictions\Disable IE Option 5... now there should be four check boxes if the one marked hide 'security tab' is checked uncheck it and Restart, but if it isnt try actually checking that box closing and restarting then going through the process again...

You could probably solve this by sifting through the registry, but XSetup will hopefully do the edit for you

*Note the location of the disable IE option 5 may have moved as the download is to the latest version...

Ah, the download doesn't work for me. It just brings up a blank page.

I uninstalled Spybot, but I'm still restricted from the options.

I might just shift through the registry, if I had an idea of what to do.

I just downloaded the latest full version of XSetup (6.5) and the option i mentioned has either been removed or relocated... try google for a copy of Xteq 6.3 (version i had)

You could always just dump IE and try get a copy of Mozilla Firefox which imho is a better browser all together

But im still working toward a solution so i could be back

Open Regedit and search for [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
Control Panel] look through for "security tab" and "content tab" set there value to 0... if they're there

Restart and see if the tabs are back in IE options

oh and i advise making a back up copy of your registry before editing it, as if it all goes to hell you can use that to restore the settings

    Hope that helps ^^

I've heard it said that sometimes adaware will find something spybot misses and vice versa. Never actually come across it myself, though.
