Why animals cats, dogs (i don't know about other's) are increasing sexual activity during spring, how this explained scientifically, its just clock in their head or weather causes this?

Spring is the start of summer, which means abundant food with which to raise young. Animals wouldn't have much success raising their offspring while also dealing with the hardships of winter months (which, depending on location can be blanketed in snow and have very scarce food supplies). Since reproduction is a huge energy cost to the organism, it's "learned" over time that the easiest way to provide for those large energy demands is to reproduce when food is abundant.

There are probably numerous triggers (temperature, amount of daylight, appearance of certain vegetation or prey species, etc) for mating behaviour.

I would also guess that in tropical areas where the seasons don't provide a significant change for the landscape, you wouldn't see quite the same breeding cycles (at least not quite on the same scale). In those cases, each organism will be restricted by gestation times, and how soon after the brood has been weaned that they are able to reproduce again.

actually humans tend to breed all year round so we are one of the odd ones out. I wonder if this was so BEFORE agroculture

Not in my experience. Or any other season for that matter.

Don't forget plants, spring is the time for their love as well.

My sinuses are well aware of that.

I bet they are, snorting plant sperm can be hard on the old sinuses. ;)

Looking at the population growth it would seem to me that before agriculture became prominent there were a hell of allot less humans on this planet.

Nice theory, i think also time of the year weather is important too because newborn organism is weaker and could die during winter when its too cold.

Well humans are smart (even cave people was) even if they did not breed during winter before agriculture it was probably not because they were driven by instincts like animals, they understood that its hard to find food and children is harder to survive during winter.

Btw its noted that psychos or serial killers go more active during spring.
I assume rape count is higher too?

I think wild ones don't breed all year? Although they can but anyway during spring their interest to this thing rises a lot.

Someone know's what other animals breed mostly during spring?

Because they are pets. They essentially get all the comforts we have.

Most animals either mate in spring or in autumn. It has to do with the length of the gestation period. This way the young are born in a time of year in which they have the best chance of survival.
Animals that have a gestation period of about a year will mate in spring, while animals that have a gestation period of about half a year while mate in autumn.

Deer come to mind as a well known example of autumn breeders.

i think its down to the weather, i think winter is depressing for most people (personally i love the winter) and people are to depressed to have sex, and when the s[ring comes they make up for lost time
