Spookz comment was not insultive or offensive. His words actually carried all it's meaning in a short sentence. It's extremely arrogant for a cop or any profession to assume that they are free from flaws or criticism, so what they get paid out of our tax money so that they can gloat freely and act as our masters. It's rediculous, public workers should be criticized for brutality or what nots, they're not gods, they're slaves of all the people.

Spookz is everything but offensive. I remember my first day on the site, I was in this extremely heated conversation about suicide bombers and I was generalizing and criticizing middle easterns really harsh, don't forget I'm of middle eastern background. Spookz admonished me so hard for forgetting my roots and I couldn't but laugh hysterically and come back with a joke....He really lightened my mood and got his point across at the same time.

Spookz is very very intelligent, If I met him 5 years ago on the internet and he was of legal age, I would have hunted him down so bad and fathered him to dozen spookzes that he wouldn't have realized what hit him. Spookz can make me feel good and laugh any time of the day. I think I can see through people and I know that Spookz is a special person.

Please don't ban spookz and for mods please don't pick on him so much, he might seem non caring sometimesto the naked eye, but spookz rarely talk without a valid point in mind, and he's very senstive and always have a good point worth listening to behind the joke or the attitude..

to ban someone edit (delete) his posts. if resisted then ban with that excuse. it is very simple.. you were already marked it seems..

btw, spookz how many dozens of little spookzes are around the globe at present..;)

I've got nothing against asguard as a person but he's a child and it shows. He shouldn't be deciding the fates of people he can't understand.
I've been deleted and editted by asguard for no reason at all, it was confusing, but rather than getting angry at him I realised he just doesn't know what he's doing. He shouldn't have any power. Its not his fault. You don't put a gun in a dogs mouth and blame the dog when it goes off.

who exactly are the young un's spookz? anyway...i've had no experience with whacky mods as many here have had. i really don't know anything about asguard or his moderating abilities, but the mods here are fairly good.

Some of the posts in this thread indicate just why moderators should not be elected but appointed by Porfiry.
I in general dont have a problem with the moderators. Sometimes they make bad judgements and are generally inefficient but they are necessary to keep a forum running and it not turn into one big mess/ ad billboard.
Some people think it fit to give them a hard time, i dont, they are doing it volentary and therefore deserve respect whoever they are and whatever judgements they make.
I do think that the moderators can be the downfall of a board - ive seen it happen - if every judgement they make is biased/wrong.
Ive seen posts edited for no reason and members being banned for no apparent reason here but its a private board owned by Porfiry not the members.

I was originally of the opinion that voting was the best way to get mods. That's changed in the past while. It's not that the voted in mods have done anything bad, really, it's just that the system is based on a flawed belief. Voting means that members who've been at the site for a short, short while get power (mainly because there's more users who've been here a short while than long-time members) - and more often than not it becomes a popularity contest. I'm glad Xev was popular when the voting was done. I'm also glad Pollux is a popular member, and am sorry he had to pull out of being a mod.

Personally, I think the best system would be for users to be allowed to throw up names for potential mods and then have the senior mods discuss and figure out who they feel is best fit for the position.

Actually, at the moment, there appears to be few actual problems with the mods we have. The only areas I would like to see discussion over are; Arts and Culture: let's get a mod who posts, eh? ---- Human Sciences: I don't think there's much of a problem here, but complaints should have a place they can be directed to ---- Ethics: Many members here don't have faith in Asguard. I'm not a huge fan of him as a mod. It is my understanding, however, that the senior mods are at least content with his status. However, even Asguard once admited he did not have enough time to focus on sciforums. Whether or not that was true is an issue onto it's own, and I am not calling for "impeachment", simply discussion.

Oh, and a while ago Goofy said he wanted a co-mod for World Politics. That co-mod ended up being Polly, and I was quite happy with that. But like I said, Polly doesn't have the time to do it anymore. And I'm happy with the job Goofy's done, but I'm not sure if he'd still like a co-mod.

Anyway, whatever the seniors decide will, I'm sure, be done with sciforums' best interest in mind. Thanks guys.

Jesus...been away for a week to a conference and one of my favourite sciforumers go himself into some trouble.

I like this forum because of certain people, such as Spookz. And if people such as him go away, I will go away (not that you would care of course, but some other people might think the same).

And personally I cannot take Asguard very seriously, because I have never seen him finish a single sentence without a mistake in it.

Look, this place gets insane. And I'm going to be in a bad mood long enough to remind some of my fellow posters that in four years I've had all of two, maybe three posts censored, and that was before the whole situation at this site got so out of hand. (Single words were removed resulting from direct complaints about severe languge.) I don't get it. For all of the mean things I say to people, I apparently either have enough credit stocked up from my time here or am good enough to actually not be violating this or that aspect of the TOA or the New Rules (are they one and the same to new registrations?). Not that I really want to look the gift fish in the gills, but ... I don't get it.

It just takes a little effort to be offensive without breaking the rules.

Seriously ... I've been threatened by other posters more times than I've been censored (I think I've been threatened directly thrice and indirectly once, and the direct threats were just people who were incensed at what I'd written to them, and most likely not contemplating in any serious mind the idea of flying to Seattle to make good). And who here doubts the vileness I can spray across a page? Take a little time. It's possible to sting people very badly without crossing the lines reasonably marked by our moderators' efforts to create some rules of order around here. And no, I don't give lessons. My posts give away enough of my secrets.

Now, as to the present case raised in the topic post: I leave that to the poster and the mod.

In the meantime, this topic is downright embarrassing.

i am happily beyond embarrassment (nudism is a good way of getting over emotional/physical hangups - worked for me). however i was hoping asguard would be embarrassed enough to tell me he overreacted or just plain goofed. since nothing was forthcoming, i suspect he is a nudist as well
