View Full Version : Speed Optimiser tablariddim 08-19-07, 10:33 AM Has anyone used this...are you pleased with it? MacGyver1968 08-19-07, 10:37 AM A little more data would help. What company makes it? What type of optimizer is it? leopold99 08-19-07, 10:46 AM i balk at any type of freeware speed optimizers. i've used various freewares and have found that most come with some sort of spyware attached. i use tune up utilities and am quite pleased with the results. (alas it isn't free) it has a registry cleaner. startup process manager. memory optimizer. file shredder. and a disk cleaner. of course it also has an internet speed booster that will tweak your TCP entries to their optimum. if you are into tweaking for internet speed may i suggest cablenut. this is a freeware program that you use to tweak every aspect of your internet connection. the best thing about it is it runs on CSS scripts which can be installed with the program or you can generate your own or use someone elses. tablariddim 08-19-07, 10:58 AM It's this http://www.speedoptimizer.com/ and it's not free. leopold99 08-19-07, 11:52 AM Has anyone used this...http://www.speedoptimizer.com/? no, i haven't. cosmictraveler 08-19-07, 12:32 PM Don't even bother. darksidZz 08-19-07, 06:02 PM Speed Optimizers are snake oil, they have no substance! Surely all those here must concur!!! leopold99 08-19-07, 07:00 PM Speed Optimizers are snake oil, they have no substance! Surely all those here must concur!!! i disagree. my tune up utilities will adjust my TCP entries for DSL or dialup and most likely cable. i am constantly using its startup manager to disable programs that have installed themselves whemn i installed other programs. i've used it to disable verizons "phone home" service. i've used tune ups registry checker to rid my registry of all sorts of garbage. when run after deleting startup entries is especially useful. no darksidzz you are dead wrong. pencil 08-19-07, 08:25 PM Speed optimizers won't do you any good as ultimately your internet speed is determined by your connection and congestion between internet traffic. The speed optimizers are designed to change your TCP protocol settings to optimize to for certain conditions like adjusting the MTU window size and packet size so your connection maybe able to operate "more smoothly" under heavy network load....which is not useful for real life usage other than benchmarks. leopold99 08-19-07, 09:05 PM speed optimizers do indeed work. broadband stands to gain more from them than dialup. it's not only TCP entries but disk fragmentation, spyware, viruses, and trojans that affect PC speed. also we aren't talking about just internet speed but the general throughput of the PC itself. yes, you are correct in saying the MAXIMUM speed is set by your ISP, but a screwed up registry key can indeed slow down what is delivered to your machine. speed optimizers correct this by putting correct values in the keys. they also have other utilities for enhancing the throughput of your machine. pencil, i'm not going to debate this issue with you. anyone that cares to do an internet search may do so. i stand by my claims in this thread. edit: tab, here are 2 sites that offer spyware free software. you might find a speed optimizer one one of them. please note, the use of a speed optimizer is not gaurenteed to speed up your PC. http://www.freewarearena.com/html/ http://www.sover.net/~wysiwygx/index.html there is also cablenut i mentioned earlier. in any event ALWAYS backup your registry BEFORE making any changes to it. as a side note i must mention i've never backed up my registry while using tune up utilities because it has built in backup and restore tools. |
