I've thought.......

Did Saddam/Iraq offer to pay North Korea to lie to the world, that it is reactivating its nuclear program? Just to have North Korea say it is backing out at the very end before the US/International community threatened military? When NK would be doing nothing more than putting up a smoke screen.

A staging.

The purpose of this would serve to stall time for Saddam, and as a diversion, the US would have to divide its attention in half now because they have to focus on someone else. This would give Saddam more time to set up defenses and attempt to gain more weapons before he is attacked.

If the North Korean president knew it was temporary and the US would try a diplomatic solution first, it would be nothing but an advantage to the NK president, he'd simply get money in his pocket from Saddam, and I doubt it would tarnish his rep anymore than it already it, NK has been known for its defiance in the past since the Korean war, and Bush already named NK as an axis of evil with Iran and Iraq over a year ago.

NK was actively pursueing its weapons program before the recent problems with Iraq began (long before). The reason why NK is making a fuss is because the US has a deadline (its attack on Iraq), and because it wants concessions. When we found out that NK was producing its weapons, we cut off their oil. How long do you think an economy, no matter how shitty or oppressed, can survive without oil?
