View Full Version : Speaking of "looting" for alcohol
MetaKron 09-25-05, 04:46 PM There have been some raised eyebrows because survivors of Katrina have been seen taking beer from liquor stores. Actually, beer is usable as water and can save your life in an emergency. It's not the best thing and it's not the worst thing. I'm surprised that I haven't heard or read anyone mentioning this. If you have to, you have to, and it works. Wine and champagne will work also, any fermented beverage that hasn't had the alcohol concentrated. Obviously the lower the alcohol the better. There are a lot of drinks out there that have way low alcohol content. You're better off stretching water supplies with beer than using it by itself. Even the alcohol sort of converts to water, but it's rough on the body. Sugars and carbohydrates help a little.
With a source of heat a lot of the alcohol can be boiled out by boiling the beverage. Be careful of the vapors. They can be flammable.
Club soda is an obvious one. It's just water and fizz. Tonic water is usable for those who aren't allergic to it.
It is not quite as obvious that a lot of canned fruits and vegetables contain water that can be drunk.
With what's been going on down in New Orleans it might be preferable to be drunk anyway.
Baron Max 09-25-05, 07:27 PM Yeah, anything to justify stealing someone else's stuff, huh? ...LOL!
Baron Max
twobirds 09-25-05, 10:28 PM You never really own alcohol, you just rent it.lol
So how is it that when you're white it's 'survival supplies' and when you're black, it's 'looting'?
"Yeah, anything to justify stealing someone else's stuff, huh? ...LOL!"
you do realise, that the first thing a bottleshop owner would do, in 12 months time when the bottleshop owner re-opens, the first thing the owner will do is to throw away all his out of date stock?
second of all, we are not talking about 'anything to justify stealing someones stuff' this is about saving peoples lives
Baron Max 09-26-05, 08:24 AM ...we are not talking about 'anything to justify stealing someones stuff' this is about saving peoples lives
Did the hurricane amend the laws against theft? If not, it was theft! And this post IS about "justifying" breaking the law ...the courts decide the extenuating circumstances, but they still broke the law.
...when the bottleshop owner re-opens, the first thing the owner will do is to throw away all his out of date stock?
But it's HIS stock to throw out or use or dump, it's not for looters/criminals to make that decision!!
Baron Max
Baron Max 09-26-05, 08:25 AM So how is it that when you're white it's 'survival supplies' and when you're black, it's 'looting'?
Where did it say anything about that? I didn't read that anywhere ....or are you just trying to throw in the "race card" to get everyone upset or pissed? :)

s0meguy 09-26-05, 01:25 PM So how is it that when you're white it's 'survival supplies' and when you're black, it's 'looting'?
oh I know I know!!1111 it's cuz tha homies r evil muthafuckas!
Giskard 09-26-05, 04:05 PM How come everything in the New Orleans Walmart was stolen except the Country Western CDs?
"But it's HIS stock to throw out or use or dump, it's not for looters/criminals to make that decision!!"
no, it is not his decision. i am sure that america has laws against selling out of date stock
"Did the hurricane amend the laws against theft? If not, it was theft! And this post IS about "justifying" breaking the law ...the courts decide the extenuating circumstances, but they still broke the law."
so, if you were dying, and you could save your life by stealing food and drink, would you do it? or would you die?
How come everything in the New Orleans Walmart was stolen except the Country Western CDs?
What a waste of CDs. For one, putting horrible music on it. Two, not using those CDs to build a solar oven like a young kid did with his leftover AOL CDs for a science fair project, heh.

Baron Max 09-27-05, 07:23 PM ...so, if you were dying, and you could save your life by stealing food and drink, would you do it?
I might still do it, but I'd still be a criminal for doing so! I wouldn't go on nationwide tv and try to proclaim my innocence of theft ....nor would I go to sciforums and post some ridiculous post to justify my criminal actions.
When individuals take the law into their own hands and then others try to justify that action, the system of law has failed everyone ...not only that individual, but all others under the system of law.
Baron Max
Baron, I honestly cannot understand why you are making such ridiculous arguments. Surely you don't agree with yourself?
Baron Max 09-27-05, 07:39 PM So, Roman, are you saying that stealing is okay sometimes? ...and the decision to do so is to be determined by the thief? .....LOL!
Baron Max
are you saying that stealing is okay sometimes?
Of course. Such as when your city's flooded and you're starving, and the grocery store's goods are floating around. I'd say that'd be a pretty good time to take stuff.
...and the decision to do so is to be determined by the thief?
Of course! Without the thief's decision to steal, there'd be no theft!
...LOL!
"When individuals take the law into their own hands and then others try to justify that action, the system of law has failed everyone"
and when obeying the law would lead to the deaths of innocents, the system of law has failed everyone
crazy151drinker 09-28-05, 04:06 AM I didnt see any reports of anyone distilling their beer to get fresh drinking water LOL
Mahaintex 09-28-05, 08:12 PM a video was sent to me by a friend that i think would clear up this life or death bullshit and i would love for all of you bleeding hearts to see it,alas i am not the most comp literate...if anyone can tell me how to move this mpeg from my email to this forum it would be helpful to this discussion
Giskard 10-01-05, 07:21 AM crazy151drinker:"I didnt see any reports of anyone distilling their beer to get fresh drinking water LOL "
By your name, it defer to your expertise.
MetaKron 10-01-05, 01:03 PM Seriously, beer, wine, and champagne can save you from dying of thirst. I'd be sick as hell but I'd be alive.
Locking up the supplies during an emergency like that hurricane is the same thing as saying that you value your stock more than you value your neighbor's life. The merchants don't even have the excuse that they might sell the goods after the hurricane in many cases. They would have been unsellable and had to be thrown away anyway. Jewelry is just about the only thing that would have had enough value to be sellable after cleaning, even in stores that were only partially flooded. All that stuff would have become trash anyway, a million tons of consumer goods. It would have been an insurance write-off and a huge landfill problem. Let the people who have volunteered to take it deal with the disposal.
In normal times it is worth using deadly force to protect mere property. It isn't worth it when natural forces are destroying that property and people are stealing from the debris field.
And screw you anyone who calls me a "bleeding heart." I hate thieves at least as much as anyone else does, and have recently gained even more reasons to hate them with the heat of a blazing sun. Still, if I have a lot and those who take it need it to save their lives, they can have some with my blessing.
Baron Max 10-01-05, 07:08 PM ..., if I have a lot and those who take it need it to save their lives, they can have some with my blessing.
Good for you. But then, .....what if they want it ALL? ...and want to leave you with nothing? Ever give that any thought? And what would you do if there were more people than you had "stuff" for? Would you then keep some for yourself and let them die?
"Bleeding heart" liberals often don't like or can't answer such questions with any degree of intelligence or forethought!
Baron Max
MetaKron 10-02-05, 12:13 AM My intelligence and forethought tell me that if I have a bunch of stuff that I can't save from being trashed, I might as well let someone else have it. If I could save it it would be a different story, but then those people wouldn't be in trouble and wouldn't be in survival mode. They would be conducting business as usual and stealing the usual percentage.
"Bleeding heart" is a term used by incurable idiots to describe any human sympathy towards suffering. Try not being an idiot.
