There are some similarities, of course. But I'm not the person to ask -- I study linguistcs and I am "professionaly deformed". I know the phonological rules and that, so it is easy for me to find related words that to others may seem totally foreign, it's fun. :)

Right now, some linguists here in Germany are searching the most beautiful word of the year (oh, what an important event...). Anyway, people could send in words, with affixed explanations to justify why a certain word should be chosen. A paralysed boy send in "remote control", not that great a word, so why did he send it in? Easy, throught a remote control he was able to use many things without needing to move.
What I want to say, the beauty of a word lies in the eyes of the beholder.

Not really, they pronounce everything the way it is written unlike most other languages.

The problem is that it has no relationship to most languages in europe. Hence it is difficult to even recognize words. Even words that came originally from for instance germanic languages.

I ended up in Helsinki ( fantastic place, mega expensive, crazy, crazy people). have you mastered their language? is'nt "no" pronounced " ay" or something? :eek:

Ich weis nicht genau was ich dazu sagen soll, dir fällt kein Ende ein? Kein Schlusswort? Nun denn, ich bezweifle das ich von großer Hilfe sein kann; ich verstege Deutsch offenbar weil ich Deutscher bin, daher ist mir nicht bekannt wie sich die Sprache für jemanden präsentiert der nicht mit ihr aufgewachsen ist.
Ich denke es gibt einen Unterschied zwischen Deutsch verstehen und Deutsch verstehen. Es ist offensichtlich das die deutsche Sprache sehr poetisch und verziert sein kann, doch gleichermaßen gibt es ein direktes, kurzes und, von einem ästetischen Standpunkt, recht unschönes Deutsch, das von den meisten vorgezogen wird. Dieses Deutsch zu verstehen ist sicherlich nicht schwerer zu verstehen als Englisch. (Hängt vielleicht auch von der Tatsache ab das heutzutage viele Wörter aus dem Englischen in unsere Sprache eingebunden werden und mit der Zeit deutsche Wörter ersetzen. Außerdem werden Grammatik und Syntax immer einfacher gestaltet...)
Aber das Deutsch der Dichter und Denker zu verstehen, dafür bedarf es schon eines anderen Verständnisses der Sprache, auch bezüglich Aufbau und Form.
Ich denke, es lässt sich am einfachsten mit dem Wort "Sprachfluss" erklären. Die Sprache fließt in aus einem heraus, befähigt einen dazu kreativ und künstlerisch zu schreiben; sie spring überall hin und wenn man mit dem Fluss schwimmt wird alles leicht verständlich. Doch wer versucht die Sprache einzuzwängen, der wird vielleicht mit seinen Regeln Deutsch verstehen, aber nur eine Art...

Well, I can understand you, but there are some mistakes.

For example:

"So ich kann auf Deutsch sprechen" Doesn´t sound that good, I would rather write: "Ich kann also auf Deutsch sprechen" or "So, ich kann also auf Deutsch sprechen" Otherwise it sounds like a direct translation of: "So I can speak German", and direct translation seldom works.

"Es geben Leute, die denken..." This would be "Es gibt Leute, die denken..."

"Kannst du mir verstehen?" try "Kannst du mich verstehen?"

The rest is quite good, disregarding some minor mistakes. :)

well she is a Magic flower so, do it any way :), it kinda help to now the short form of words when reading other languages:)

kut is the nasty word for cunt, but it is creativily used on many levels in the dutch language.

You can say that something is kut, which would mean it is shit, or bad.

A zooi is a mess, the combination kut and zooi signifies a shit mess.

It is not really rude to say that something is kut in dutch, because sometimes thngs just are.

Hah, I pondered and pondered, and thought and thought whether the second Germanic sound shift included some specifics in nasal vowels (so that an, en, in, on, un could become a, e, i, o, u) -- but no.

Kut must be related to the German Kot; the o is long and closed, and it is expectable that Dutch would have an u where German has a long closed o.
Ah, but the phonological system is trickier than that; most likely, this explanation works only in a certain sound cluster.

Star thane is pronounced just as it's written. Xyzth is supposed to be a sibilant, reptilian sound: X as in axe, y as in sky, z as in zero and th as in theory. Try to run them all together.

kut might also come from cut or cunt. Remember we are not only influenced by the german language.

Zooi means mess as I said before.
