South Park is one of my favorite shows, I'm curious how people from other countries view the show and if they get the humor in it.

Lately in South Park I've been keeping my ears pricked for pop culture references and insider jokes, like what they do on The Simpsons constantly, and I've found a great deal of them. Unfortunately I think I heard they were cancelling it, which means that the whole f*cking world is going to hell because farscape is getting cancelled too.

But I find it very, very amusing, even if it is disgusting. Definitely tops the Simpsons for me, but only by a wee little.

One of the things South Park is very good at is taking the extreme points of any given social debate and exploiting them to ridiculous measure. The "flag" episode was one of these for sure--while I understand the point about not erasing history, I'm torn on the issue, and I found their discussion far too simplistic. But by the time we come forward to the "Spirit of Kindness" child-abducting episode this season, the comic form has reached new heights.

Some issues we've seen extreme debate on:

• Sex ed for kids
• Flags and history
• Reality TV (auditioning for fourth friend)
• Censorship (movie)
• Bisexuality (meteor-shower)
• Big business (Tweak vs. Harbucks)
• Protecting children (spirit of kindness)
• Disability (Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld)
• Religion (Crap out your mouth, Stations of the Cross)

Combined with hideously overt exploitation of stereotypes (the Chinese dude in the "Spirit of Kindness" episode blows my mind), the mocking public debates amid South Park denizens contribute to a sarcastic social commentary masked behind a faηade of smarmy, foul-mouthed children, dancing feces, and cripple-fights.

Sometimes, when watching South Park, I get a flash of this or that fellow Sciforums member staring at the screen in disbelief yelling, "Ad hominiem! Ad hominiem! You can't say that!" Nonetheless, it's sad and just a bit frightening that the extreme perspectives expressed by South Park's ultimately stupid citizens are not unfamiliar. I've heard most of it before from real living humans in various communities.

So it seems to me that South Park is an amazingly relevant, paradoxically subtle social critique. Stone and Parker seem to know that they're yanking people's chains. It seems to be the point. Something about that seems incredibly effective. I've watched intelligent-seeming people flip-flop 180° after seeing a South Park episode. Something about the form of criticism seems to resonate with people. Perhaps it's that they get to say "bitch", "fuckin' Jew", and "fat-ass" along the way.

I had been drifting away from South Park until the last few episodes. I hadn't been paying attention. And then I saw the child-abducting "Spirit of Kindness" episode, and it's hard to describe what happened. I cheered at the last line. Someone needed to say it:

"Jesus Christ--I know they've done some stupid shit before, but Jesus Christ!"

Yeah, just before then, when the parents said their son was the huge mongol, but were enlightened by him as he pointed to their real son (all in the space of several seconds) my chest was acking. Maybe I laugh easier but that episode was unbelievably funny.

"Waai you not gonna tear down maai shitty waall!"

South Park is hilarious! I love it! Simpsons is better of course, because you can watch a simposons episode over and over, and its still good. South Park episodes are funniest first time round. I frequently wet myself laughing when watching South Park! And that south park movie was amazing! The music was actually really well written, and just pure brilliance!

You know, I well understand why people think South Park sucks, but I have to agree with Pollux V and go so far as to say that SP is the only show that regularly leaves me in pain from laughing at it.

Over all: it's too rude to be funny.Curiously, that's how I feel about people in general. Especially as an American.

How interesting.

South Park was quite funny when it first aired. That was because it was original and adventurous and pushed the boundries of what is acceptable in society today.

Now the show is a has been. The kids that watched it for the swearing have moved onto Pokemon and Dragonball Z. The adults just don't have time or just aren't laughing at it anymore.

I admit I liked it when it was first out and the film was amusing, but its best not to stir the sleeping dog

I just love Southpark and it helps me to keep up to date with social issues over the pond.

Southpark is the best , love its sarcasm.

One sentence not so long ago made me laugh like mad-

Every time a Chinese person builds a wall, damn Mongolians come and destroy it:D:D

Without a doubt, the best episode was the Pilot. :D

Cartman: Well, I was standing out in a field, and I had this huge
satellite dish sticking out of my butt. And then there were
hundreds of cows and aliens, and then I went up on the ship and
Scott Baio gave me pinkeye.

Stan: That wasn't a dream Cartman, that really happened.

Cartman: Oh, right. Why don't I have pinkeye then?

Kyle: Cartman, you do have pinkeye.

Cartman: Ahh, son of a bitch!
