for some reason, i can create a thread everywhere BUT the cesspool. thats the only place I really want to start a thread. why? can a mod or equiavalent offer me an explanation?
The Cesspool was intended as a place to throw topics that got out of hand, deemed undesirable for the general discussion environment. This came about for various reasons related to member conduct. The general response was to start posting ridiculous and offensive topics in The Cesspool; the effect was a glorification of the profanely vapid. As this was apparently not to the hopes of moderation and administration, the ability to post new topics in The Cesspool was removed. The only topics entering The Cesspool do so at moderator discretion. Aspiring to The Cesspool with intentionally-inappropriate topics (as some have done before) has the general effect of reducing moderator sympathy for such an individual in future conflicts. Part of our sense of justice, compassion, and, yes, punishment can be affected by recalling how much of a mess any given member in question has made; if we are continually cleaning up small messes someone causes that aren't bannable offenses, we are less sympathetic when something big comes up. We don't like censoring people, and only when someone goes out of their way to give us a reason do we derive any specific pleasure from banning someone.
okay. that still doesnt answer my question as to the exact technological reasons for why i cannon start a subject in there.
and why would an admin disable the ability to create threads in the only board where sanity never matters?
Because this board is supposed to be an intelligent community, the cesspool is the unintelligent community, thus it's existance can be compared to a wastebin, you throw things in to be rid of them, but you do not want things to get out or prosper in there. If you feel the desperate need for inane chatter, well, there are many other internet message boards where you can do that. By the way, there are is also something like an intelligent insanity which might still be adequate on this board, but if you just want to create threads about some crazy bullshit, you either go to the parapsychology forum or you just register at another board to chatter about it.

huh. ive asked for a nonsensical thread started in the Free Thought section to be moved to the Cesspool, but they were just moved, and then closed. they weren't offensive things, they were just VS debates.
