You should know I soft delete posts; i.e. moderators can see them.

Ok. What's "sfoft delete"? Are moderators deleting posts that they don't agree with? :bugeye:

If that is so, sound like fascism to me. :bugeye:

Just a clarification that is needed...

If you didn't miss the post originally it's obviously not that important.

For the most part soft deletes are usually use when clearing up threads from people that have not been discussing the topic and/or derailed it completely.

If you follow that link, the peopel who had been soft-deleted claim that they were having a reasonable discussion, being on topic and without insulting anyone.

These posts could be deleted for any number of reasons. "soft delete" means that the post is removed from sight, but is not permanently gone, they could still be restored later.

Moderators do have the ability to delete posts in their forum.
Using that ability to remove opinions different to their own would be a Very Bad Thing, and would probably lead to that person not being a moderator any more.

The idea is that no-content pollution like spam, obscene insults, and the like can be removed, and this is generally what the delete feature is used for.

Supermoderators and Admins are able to restore the posts in question if warranted. I've PM'ed James and Plazma, they'll have a look.

Anyway just to clarify, I don't delete the posts permanently, so they can be restored if there is a difference of opinion; that was just my way of saying that anyone who claims they were wrongfully deleted should know they are still available for perusal by James or Plazma.

Suffice to say the conversations involved long hard dicks, naked men, pedophiles and one liners which contributed nothing to the thread.

Does that satisfy your curiosity? :D

I just looked at the deleted post. Baron was telling people about his penis. ashpwner told people how he didn't like people in general. There were a couple of other off-topic one-liners with no useful content, and that's about it.

As far as I can see, the deletions didn't involve any useful or relevant content.

I've checked that thread too.

Deleted post were off topic. Nothing of vital importance for the discussion.

Ok. What's "sfoft delete"? Are moderators deleting posts that they don't agree with?

It's been explained in this thread that 'soft' deletion means that posts are still available in the database, i.e. it's possible that they could be restored if:
1. Deletion was accidental
2. Other moderators, supermoderator or administrator hold different opinion about deleted post(s) (Restored after moderator who deleted post(s) have been consulted)
3. Members think that deletion was unfounded (after revision, super moderator or administrator could restore post(s))
3. Server has been restored due some technical issues

Anyway, posts are mostly deleted with reason. They're mostly off topic, offensive, inane, insulting, etc.

This is extract form the SciForums rules:

2. Personal Attacks or Abusive Ad Hominems

Posts which attack a person rather than his or her views will be edited to remove the unnecessary personal remarks, or deleted in entirely

3. Stereotyping, Insulting and name-calling

Use of vulgar or demeaning words to describe a member or a group of people will be subjected to editing or post deletion at a moderator’s discretion. The reparative use of such language could get you banned.

4. Goading, flaming and trolling

Posts which, in the moderator's opinion, serve no purpose other than to attempt to provoke an angry reaction from another poster, will be deleted.

5. Religious, ethnic or racial hatred / Threats

Avoid posts that promote hatred among different religions, ethnic groups or nations.

All racial slurs will be deleted.

Any post threatening another poster in any way will be deleted, and an effort will be made to ban the poster from sciforums.

6. Gratuitous comments and images

Obscene, sexually-oriented, violent and graphic material will, in most cases, be removed. If you wish to post an image or information that may be found offensive please post only a link and warning of what it contains.

8. Off-topic posts

Posts that interrupt a serious thread with inane comments that in the moderator’s opinion do not relate to the original topic will be deleted.

Plus plagiarism, repeated posts and threads, etc.

Therefore, nothing unfounded.

If that is so, sound like fascism to me.
Physically removed posts cannot be restored.
