Im going to assume that the long term goal for society is to colonize beyond our galaxy before the sun turns into a Red giant and engulfs earth. This is looking extremely far into the future but many things are going to have to take place before this can happen. We are first probally going have to unite earth under one goverenment.(or have another cold war) Then we are probally going to have to colonize the moon. Then mars. And eventually Discover a sutable young galaxay and develop the technoloy to get us there. My question is how far do you think we will make it?
I think if we can make it 100 more years we will be unstoppable. however, currently there are nukes all over the world and a really shitty Near Earth Asteroid detection system that we have to overcome. with a little luck we will be able to do it.

well, with one war(against america) we could have the wealth distributed well enough to promote economy all over the world, have no need for intercontinental missiles, and therefore eliminate poverty by putting military spending into aid. once we had done that we would need to unite china and russia in order to showcase the triumph that communism is therefore making globalism possible. and after that 50-100 years we wolud be able to develop techonolgy to move planets

I'd think that the long term goal would be to repair this planet we are destroying before we can no longer live here because of pollution problems that will kill humanity. We cannot travel to the stars if we cannot live long enough to do so. First things first I'd say then we might be able to unite in order to reach the stars.
vslayer, why doesn’t America just take over the rest of the world and do the same thing? America could have (and maybe should have) taken over the world when we had a nuclear monopoly after WWII. I personally think that wars is not the solution. Population control is.
