View Full Version : Social Anxiety Disorder
xandrique 10-30-06, 05:51 AM I have read a few of you claiming to have social anxiety disorder... just interested to see how many people have it or other anxiety (disorders).
Update:
Most people have at least a low level of anxiety in some social situations (job interview, talking in front of others, going on a date) but to classify as having social anxiety disorder your anxiety level has to disurpt your everyday life. Some people find that they panic so much that they will avoid social gatherings altogether.

I thought this was just common knowledge, sorry about that.

WTF. I'm the only one who voted yes? As fucked up as half the people here are? lol.

...LOL! No, you're not the only one, but his question was so UNspecific as to be almost meaningless. Without some more specific parameters, almost any form of social "abnormality" could be considered a "social anxiety" by some people at some time.
It's sort of like asking "Are you happy?" Well, shit, almost anyone can be happy at some point in time, right?
As I get older, I'm getting more and more agoraphobic. But since I'm retired, it doesn't cause me any difficulties or "anxiety". So ....do I have some form of "social anxiety"? Hmm, well, no, but............? ...LOL!

Sorry, I added some specific parameters, go and read the URL if you're having troubles with the question.
Is it just me or have people on sciforums found the perfect way of taking the fun out of everyday conversing?

Well, the problem is that it is NOT "everyday conversing" ...it's writing something out on this computer that's stored in some other computer for all of eternity, and maybe longer! A gazillion years from now, someone is going to be reading all of this ....quite unlike having a nice conversation over coffee or beer, huh?

Holy crap! longer than eternity!! ehe
I still say that it's everyday conversing... our methods have changed but this isn't much different than what I talk about with friends in person.
You have a lot of faith in the immortality of these words, I commend you.

Your attitude about it is probably similar to those cavemen who painted porno on the walls of their caves, or the statue makers who gave the women those huge tits, or monstrous dicks!

how do you know what their attitude or what my attitude is like?
I just thought it was cute that you think that sciforums will last longer than eternity/beyond a limitless amount of time. It's adorable.
Def. yes. I avoid people as much as I can, on the streets, around me. I try to stay as far away from them as I can. I sleep during daytime and am awake evening and whole night until 5 am. At 5 am I go to sleep.

This doesn't surprise me.
heliocentric 11-15-06, 06:40 AM Definitely, although i dont think its severe as it once was. I can hold down a job, go traveling/socialise, so it doesnt really stop me from doing what i want to do.
But it is still a struggle for sure, im never quite comfortable around lots of people and im pretty sure i never truely will be. It sucks but what can you do?
I don't have social anxiety -- in fact, I would say my problem is the opposite. I keep blatantly disregarding social norms, and thus have gotten into lots of trouble...
