Where should we put the capitol? Give a city name...

The dead center of the Clavius crater on the Moon might be a good choice. We know it isn't holy land or anything crazy that everyone would fight about.

Seriously though I'd say somewhere in the center of a continent with tolderable weather. How about Boulder Colorado. I don't think the Rockies are going anywhere. (Trivia bit: That was the town chosen by the people in the Stephen King book "The Stand". I believe there is access to power from the Hoover Dam, but I might be totally wrong)

Assuming that it's a serious question, there is a good case to put forward for Geneva (long history of neutrality). But since the idea of a world government tends to scare the bejesus out of most right-wing thinkers who believe that it would be biased towards the country that hosts it, I would suggest that an island without a native population be selected and developed specifically for the purpose. It wouldn't be the first time a capital city was purposefully constructed in the middle of nowhere.

Yes yes yes I know, but I want to try and get the left to throw rocks at each other arguing where the capitol should be. In any case I vote for New York because it is the most important city in the world.

I'd like to start out by saying that if we did have a world government - I wouldn't want to see one, permanent capital city. That wouldn't be fair. Instead, I'd want the assembly to move around.

But...if we're doing this for fun, I guess I'd have to say Jerusalem. It's an amazing city, and highly important to the global economy.

Come to think of it, Rejkavik, Iceland would be a damn nice setting. Nice, peaceful people. Quiet. It'll never become overpopulated or really polluted. And definately safe. Rejkavik 'd be my #1 pick.

Roma (Italia) ! As it has been the capital of the most important empire in History. Or somewhere in China where there is most of the population.

how bout we build a whole new city. some where in the mid-east. where old babylon lied, the first major city of the world. make it "new babylon" (problem may be with iraq, but a succificent police force could restore order)

That sounds nice in theory, but I don't think you can step on a blade of grass in that area without someone telling you that their holy lands are desecrated. I think brand new is the only viable option.

Washington, DC has strict gun control laws that contribute to the crime problems, but that's another thread in a different forum.

The odds of selecting a current capital city are about zero, and less than that for an american military base Jerrek...

Geneva, you can be sure that they not condemn your political/ethnic/religious background in Switserland, as long as you bring a large suitcase of money...

Istanbul or Geneva

if creating a new city, id say build it on the sides of the panama canal, make that thing bigger and you've got the grooviest city ever

The problem with Istambul (the only one I can see !) is the earthquakes... If a global government has to stop working during a few days because of it, it would not be the best thing that would happen. Istambul is said to wait for a big one in the next years.
