THAT didn't last long You don't stand up alone in front of an armed guard protecting the state and scream "Revolution". Not if you want to succeed, you don't. You need to be a bit more subtle than that (at least in the beginning). Start underground - gather support - build a plan - amass numbers then ALL scream it together with weapons in YOUR hands. It was that crazy guy who wanted to go to the UN and demand his own country or something . The one who screams in all caps and breaks his sentances in odd places. Moesha Thezula or something? He was trying to start a revolution and riot here.
Perhaps I should steer it towards a valid discussion... How DO you start a revolution? Seems to me one of the key ingredients is a charismatic leader, but how can you have that while trying to stay under the radar of the current regime and not be disposed of?
A revolution is started by convincing people that they need change. A revolution is prevented by convincing people that they cannot afford change. The whole socio-economical system in Europe was set up after WW2 to prevent social instability. There was a determination to prevent another world-war. This system is currently still in place. In the USA a different system is in place. People are given a dream and are indoctrinated that the dream isn't a dream but a real possibility. Only effort is required. Failure is personal. This is however all rhetoric.
spurious, Of course all that is true. Along with this, is that people will not revolt if they have something to lose. So let's say all the crucial ingredients are there. People are dissatisfied, they see themselves at rock bottom, they have nothing to lose and everything to gain and they see themselves as being opressed by the regime in power. Now what? How does one go about STARTING a revolution, and not end up like Martin Luther King, Malcom X or dozens of other "smaller" heroes in the 1960's social upheaval in this country?
oh, you want a revolution in the USA. That is not possible, or borders on impossible. The population is indoctrinated with a sense of false individualism. Revolutions are fought generally because of social inequality and social identity. There is no social polarity in American society on an ideological plane, just economically. All want the same. To get rich. Lead a good life. For themselves. Not for others. Not really a good medium for social upheaval. Even if poverty would increase the poor wouldn't be united. They would just aim for self-improvement. (Of course now I generalized)
Of course you did - grossly - and you still didn't address the question. I wasn't talking about a revolution, specifically in the US. I was simply referring to what has happened to "revolutionaries" here as an example. Where does not matter. Wherever you are, there will be someone in power attempting (even desperate) to retain status quo (obviously, or else there would be no need for revolution).
Where does matter. The communist revolution was originally envisoned to take place in an industrialized nation such as England. It did occur in the mainly rural nation of Russia. Conditions for revolutions are highly specific and local.
