Well, as of a few days ago, cigarette taxes raised another $0.62 per pack, putting them at around $6-$9 a pack here in Illinois (depending on the brand and location).

Many in our area, as well as around the nation have been encouraged to quit smoking, or at least cut back due to the tax jump.

How has this change affected your smoking habits?

I do not smoke tobacco products so I do not feel any affects on myself.

No, to much taxes are made, but fewer people will be able to afford them and they might become a "black market" enterprise .

Think Prohibition and today's illegal drug market.

Two years ago, smokes were 3 dollars a pack. After 4 increases later they are 8 bucks. I think that sort of tax increase should be illegal. Nothing else sees that kinda taxation.

Sounds like the government is feeding off of people's addictions now (no different than this "evil" tobacco company I hear so much about on TV), but the government says it's doing it in order to encourage people to quit. A tax increase was easily passed in California a year or so ago, but smokers are kind of treated like diseased lepers out here.

Actually it's encouraged MORE smoking...more people are simply purchasing it online in much larger quantities in many cases...here in Phoenix people drive for miles to the Indian reservations to buy boxes of boxes.
