what can you do about slandering at work? And your job is on the line because of peoples views of you.

Do you rely on your job to pay bills and eat? If so, it would be in your best interest to keep the petty stuff as far away from it as possible.
Don't do anything to provoke any problems, and bring it up with your/their superiors if the coworker creates problems for you.

My sentiments exactly. Why do your coworkers have a negative perception of you? What kind of views do your work peers have of you and why is your job on the line.

You being presumably a grown adult, should know better than to ask questions like that with as little detail as you presented in your post.

It's like posting the question "Hey, is my car faster than my friends?"
How the hell are we supposed to know when we don't even know what type of cars you're talking about???

Don't play games, let's presume he's a normal guy that doesn't want to work to hard but also wants to work, someplace in the midrange of a job. That's what a normal job should be, his coworkers having bad opinions about him doesn't mean a damn thing about his performance or his actual position. They are likely gerks and stupid telling him what to do or something, or critizing how he does things but the results would mostly show they're fine.

This is why I think he should look for another job ASAP and then when he finds one tell them "hey you, ya know you fu**rs have been making fun of me for awhile now, burn in hell you scum bags and you're lucky I won't be around here to kick your asses. Go do my job if you want to comment on it so much" then laugh and throw something down on the floor to startle them, lol

You can't be certain that one of those people won't be your boss at another company some day. You can't be certain that some day you won't be so desperate that you'll be asking those people for help finding a job. You can't be certain that one of those people won't move into the house next door to yours. Be the spouse of one of your parents' friends, the sister/parent/best friend of your next girlfriend, or in some coincidental way turn out to be someone you have to make peace with no matter how you feel about them.

Never respond to trash talking with trash talking. It makes everyone else think you're as bad as those people, and it will make you feel like a smaller person. Rise above it, be better than they are. That is the best revenge.

I / he is better than they are, that's why we can notice it when nobody else can. We are smarter, more intelligent, and more insightful than an average joe working in a trash job and having people claim we aren't doing a great job. We're better than they are in everyway... you see those you work with, me and him, they are like puppets in the corporate ladder, we are independant and freethinkers, not corresponding to their requests which have no basis in job performance is merely all we do. If someone tells me to triple check something for no other reason the mere policy, well, I laugh and say no. That's because I do it right the first time not the second or third, they can check it if they like.

Same scenerio applies to everything, and being desperate doesn't make them right, someone should put people like that in their place before its to late, I would never go back to a burnt bridge and try crossing it again.
