haha i just saw the first showing here in L.A.
the cinematics were amazing! w00 what a great looking film.

i think u should all see it, the whole 1940's style was really groovy.
the plot was okay, but this is the kind of thing where that doesnt matter.

Rate on a scale of 1-10:

Special Effects Quality
Action and Adventure (nonstop?)
T&A (specifically, how much do we see of Jolie?)

The Onion's AV Club (http://www.theonionavclub.com/cinema/index.php?issue=4037) gave it a very good review. Who knows, maybe I'll get out to see it this weekend.

The bad guy, Dr. Totenkopf is played by Laurence Olivier, even though Larry died in 1989. Apparently old movie shots were recycled to form a new character.

I just saw it today and I give it an 8. It's like watching an upgraded and better special-effects 50-60's sci-fi adventure movie. Reminds me of some WW2 movies, Buck Rogers, Indiana Jones, old B-movies.. just a buncha stuff. It was really good and was refreshing to watch for a different style movie and if you're into those old sci-fi adventure movies, you'll love this.

The special-effects were good and the whole movie was computer generated (except the people). Sadly there's not much of Angelina Jolie until towards the end but she's still a badass. As for action, there's a good amount of it, but the movie is more adventurous (which action is obviously involved) in nature.

So yeah, I recommend the movie, even moreso if you want to see something different or have some nostalgic memories.

I saw it last Friday and loved it. The funny 40's/the future world they created was really cool. I liked the action and special effects, and yes the plot was a bit lacking, but its a spoof on the romance period films what do you expect?

I was surprised to find it wasn't a spoof, it's more like a careful recreation of a movie from that time. There's no winking at the audience, I didn't once feel that the director or actors were saying, "look how silly they were back then, aren't they cute?". This was made with deep love and respect for the era, in my opinion there is nothing spoofy about it.

I've never seen a movie that felt more authentic, it's as if someone found it in a vault that was buried in the late thirties/early forties. Obviously the effects are more advanced but somehow even that doesn't feel out of place. I really enjoyed it.

It only made about 10 million dollars on the opening weekend, very dissappointing.

actually it was about 16 mil for it's open but thats still a lot lower than I'd have guessed it would be, especially when you consider how bland it's competition was.

Hopefully it's just slow starter, if this movie does badly it'll just reinforce all of hollywoods worst instincts. Good-bye risk taking and innovation, hello "Resident Evil 6: Zombie Garfield".
